Jose Alves

1945 - 2017

Jose Alves of Bridgewater died March 30, 2017 at the age of 71 after a two year battle with cancer. Alves was born and raised in Portugal where he joined the Portuguese Air Force in 1966, as a paratrooper. He served in both Angola and Mozambique while in the Air Force. He lived and worked in Germany prior to coming to Bridgewater in 1975 after meeting his wife of 41 years, Maria. He was a machine operator for I.B.C. in Easton for over 30 years. After fully retiring, he enjoyed traveling to Aruba many times with Maria. He enjoyed watching soccer, Maury, and Jerry to pass the time. Alves showed his love for family and friends through his passion of conversing about various topics while enjoying a good meal, an espresso, and an after-dinner brandy. His signature "index finger point" showed his views on subject matters he didn't quite like. He was always available to lend a helping hand. He was the husband of Maria Figueiredo Alves of Bridgewater. Father of Brian Alves and his wife Gloria of Bridgewater, and Lisa Alves and her partner Aaron Smith of Randolph. Grandfather of Dana Giove and Ty Giove. Brother of Elisa, Manuel, Alvaro, Teresa, Alice, Zarita and the late Antonio. Padrinho to Tennille Figueiredo and Dylan Looney. Great Tio to Kayleigh Figueiredo, Arielle O'Neill, and Aiden O'Neill. Alves also leaves behind a large extended family and many nieces and nephews. He was a loving and devoted father, husband, and friend - he will be deeply missed by those close to him.
