Rose Tierney Obituary

Tierney, Rose M..
Rose M. Tierney, 89 beloved daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Wynne) Tierney, passed on peacefully, Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Saint John Paul II Center in Danbury, CT. Rose was born on November 11, 1926 and was a lifelong resident of the Springdale section of Stamford, CT. She attended Sacred Heart Academy, Class of 1944 and continued her studies with the Sister of St Joseph, West Hartford. Following her return to Stamford, Rose was employed by American Cyanamid, the Southern New England Telephone Company and Pitney Bowes.
A parishioner of The Church of St Cecilia, Rose enjoyed singing with the Choir and was a member of the Adoration Society. She volunteered as a tutor for the parish elementary school and Mercy Learning Center in Bridgeport. She was politically astute and an avid environmental protection advocated. Her greatest gift was her love, compassion and faithful devotion to the care and comfort of her family and neighbors, always ready to offer a ride, cup of tea, toast or welcome place to lay your head. We are eternally grateful to Aunt Rose for the life lessons she taught us; how to play by the rules, how to garden, how to cook and sew, when to laugh and when to hold back. "Up the House" with Aunt Rose and Irish bread, pea soup, chocolate cake, iced tea, polkas and Irish jigs in the living room, busting at the seams with the lot of us, will hold a cherished place in our hearts forever.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters and brother-in-law's; Mary and Frank H. Merry, and Anne and Charles Merry, her brother "Brud" Michael F. Tierney; her nieces, Maureen Januski and husband Mickey, Barbara Merry and Peg Merry.
Rose is survived by her sister-in-law, Jean Tierney; her cousins Frances Mackey and Elaine Botelle as well as her dearly loved nieces and nephews: Fr. Paul F. Merry, Richard F and Lucille Merry, Brian F. Merry, Michael and Rosemary Carrigan-Merry, Patricia and Peter Nicosia, Michael and Deborah Tierney, Mary Tierney, Sharon Tierney, Sheila Schatzman, Carolyn Tierney, John and Wendy Tierney and Kerry and Bob Bender. She was a great aunt to numerous nieces, nephews and their children.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of her Life, 10:30 am at the Church of St. Cecilia, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, CT on Saturday, April 30,2016. Interment will follow at St. Johns Cemetery, 25 Camp Avenue, Darien, CT.

Rose was a wonderful Highview Avenue neighbor and many times we had some long conversations. She was always working around the house, especially on the hedges. Our condolences to the family. May she RIP!
