Arthur Haas Obituary

Arthur Haas
August 20, 1947-April 17, 2017Arthur J. Haas, 69, devoted father, grandfather, and friend, passed away Monday, April 17, 2017. He will be greatly missed. Arthur was born August 20th, 1947, in Stamford, Connecticut and was a life-long resident. He was a self-employed Certified Public Accountant for over 30 years.
A tri-sport athlete, Arthur, affectionately known as Big Art, was a stand-out football, basketball and baseball player throughout his youth and at Stamford High School. A music-lover, he also played the violin and baritone horn, which he went on to play in the UConn Huskies pep band.
He went above and beyond for his children and their varied athletic activities – never missing a single swim meet, softball or volleyball game. His doors were always open to anyone, and he would go out of his way to help a friend or stranger in need. He was generous, big-hearted, and opened his home to his and his children's many friends. Arthur had an amazing sense of humor and was a great story-teller, and made friends with everyone wherever he went. His greatest joys and sense of pride were for his three children and two grandchildren.
His love of fine food and dining out and UConn women's basketball were t at the top of his many interests, which also included SCUBA diving and WWII history.
Arthur was a 1965 graduate of Stamford High School and 1970 graduate from UConn, where he earned a Bachelors degree in Business Administration and was a member of the Phi Sigma Delta fraternity.
He is survived by his mother, Florence Haas; sisters Rosie Haas and Sara Wells; brother Paul Haas; former wife of nearly 30 years Sharon Haas, his children Jason Haas and wife Liliana, Becky Haas, Beth Taylor and husband Chad; his granddaughters Natalie and Casey Taylor; girlfriend Lette Gil; uncle Marvin Goldberg; cousins, nephews, and many special friends who were like family, including the Fines, Levines, Peltas, Goldbergs, Corbins and Rapoports.
He is predeceased by his father Bernard Haas, brother Philip Haas and beloved pitbull Lennox.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 20 at Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home at 2900 Summer Street in Stamford, followed by a burial at Independent Lodge Cemetery in Darien, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Stamford Hospital. Gifts made in his memory will support the Diabetes Prevention and Education program.

To the Haas Family,
I truly thought I had signed this book when I learned of your Dad's passing. Eddie and I were truly shocked to learn of his passing Along with being our CPA for over 20 years, he was a friend and I loved him very much. The past few years were difficult for both your Dad and I but we always managed to chat for an hour or more and he always shared stories of the three of you as well as his two precious grandchildren who he adored, I had no idea how sick he Was. We would have been their for the Funeral if I were able to travel, but that is not an option for me at this time. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time. He was a wonderful friend and always made me laugh no matter how bad things were. He will truly be missed.

I have been a friend of Art for over 55 years. His dad would pitch and umpire for all of us when we played ball at Schofield Beach (where a home run rattled around the rows of beach lockers)...and Art hit many. We were both camp counselors at Long Ridge Day Camp during our high school summers. We graduated SHS and attended UCONN. We both became CPA's. I recently stayed at his home during our 50th Reunion. I am honored to have known him...Everlasting life is a long, long time...Forever and ever AMEN! See you then.

Beth/Chad, Jason/Liliana, and Becky: Allen and I are so sorry that Art has passed. He was a genuinely kind and generous man and we both enjoyed many good times with him. I remember thinking when my mom first met him how lucky she was to meet a man who had such a zest for life. Man, what a storyteller he was! I was always so impressed by the fact that whenever you went out somewhere with Art, he would always be four or five steps behind you chatting and storytelling with a perfect stranger! He had an open heart and just loved to share. Although we will not be able to attend services today, please know we are sending our love and thinking of all of you.

I remember meeting him for the first time and feeling happy that my mom had met such a nice guy who had such a zest for life. Man, what a storyteller he was! I always marveled at the way you would be out somewhere with Art only to find him four or five steps back chatting with a complete stranger! So many fond memories for myself and my family....the trips and Christmases in Vt..the day he "acquired" Lennox..the scuba diving trips..the New Years eve parties...the cookouts ..the gourmet dinners....trips to Colgate to watch Beth play softball....tag sales...concerts...Thanksgiving dinners..and those very frequent trips to " Grade A" grocery store... Art loved to be with people and have a good time. He was kind to my family and treated them like his own. A story teller unpresidented by any one else I have known..his life centered around his children and friends...he will be so missed by all, my thoughts especially to Beth, Becky, Jason and Liliana......Judy G.

Art was my friend and accountant for more than 35 years. Many can say many things about him - he was so unique. I think it can be summed up in two latin words we lawyers sometimes use.Art was sui generis. "one of a kind". I will miss his friendship, his great humor , his tenacity , and his business wisdom. Sincere condolences to his family.
