William Haverty Obituary

WILLIAM BAIRD HAVERTY William Baird Haverty, 88, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center. He was born in St. Clair, PA, on July 25, 1925, son of the late William Robert Haverty and Marguerite Dormer Haverty. Mr. Haverty served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was a graduate of Penn State University and a member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Wilmington. Mr. Haverty was employed as a nuclear engineer with General Electric Company, retiring after thirty-six years of service. Surviving are his wife of sixty-two years, Edna Banks Haverty; two daughters, Terri Haverty Nichols and husband Carl of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Traci Haverty Fleming of South Pasadena, CA; three grandchildren, Carl "Trey" P. Nichols III, William Mason Fleming, and Piper Jane Fleming; and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2013, at St. Mark Catholic Church with a prayer service at 11 a.m. Right of committal will follow in the church columbarium. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS, 66675, or a charity of individual choice.
