Kathleen Parrett Obituary

PARRETT, Kathleen Coughlen Kathleen Coughlen Parrett, age 52, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at her home in Austin, TX. She was born April 9, 1965, on the Fort Ord Army Post, near Monterey, CA to Thomas David "Tucker" and Marilyn Louise (nee Rutherford) Coughlen. She married the love of her life, Brian Joseph Parrett, on March 29, 2013, in Dripping Springs, Texas. She was a 1983 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, Texas and was an officer in the Lee Brigadiers. She received her Bachelor's in Education from Stephen F. Austin and taught English for several years in the Deer Park ISD. While teaching, she completed her Master's Degree and worked many years as a High School Counselor in the Austin area. Kathleen was very passionate about her students, believing they could be successful no matter how difficult their circumstances. She refused to let a devastating diagnosis of pancreatic cancer last May dim her enthusiasm for life or stop her from counseling her students until the end. She had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way, keeping in touch with people throughout her life. A great and loyal friend to many, she loved life and lived it to the fullest. She was passionate about her beliefs, with a strong belief in God, yet was open to the beliefs of others. Kathleen is survived by her husband, Brian; her father, Tucker; her brother, David Allen (Katie) Coughlen; nephews, Kyle Allen and Sean David Coughlen; her aunt, Patricia Calvert "Penny" (Lloyd) (nee Coughlen) Connour; and many cousins and dear friends. Kathleen is preceded in death by her mother, Marilyn. Family, friends, and others whose lives Kathleen touched are invited to the celebration of her life on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Unity Church of the Hills, 9905 Anderson Mill Rd, Austin, TX 78750 to reminisce, grieve, and support each other. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Kathleen's memory to Urban Roots (http://urbanrootsatx.org) or Austin Pets Alive (https://www.austinpetsalive.org)

Memories and Condolences
for Kathleen Parrett

Not sure what to say?

March 26, 2020

I often thought when I finally retired in Austin, after traveling around this country, that I would reconnect with Kathleen. Little did I know that the stories we would share, (with lots of laughter, wine and love) was not meant to be. Now back in Austin and missing her dearly. She was a great friend and an amazing woman. Rest well fine lady. I am grateful for the time and memories we did have. ❤Leora Diana

My condolences to Brian and to all whom Missy leaves behind. Although I taught in a different department in Deer Park, I had a chance to get to know her when we traveled together to a TSTA conference. She was a wonderful person. I am so sorry to learn of her passing.

Missy was the shining light and positive spirit in the room. Such a loving and beautiful person! I taught English with Missy in Deer Park and have missed her since she left many years ago. I am also a Baytown native, graduating from Ross Sterling in 1970.

Brian, know that my prayers & thoughts are with you. I understand your deep loss and grief. I lost my husband almost 5 years ago to colon cancer. One day at the time and keep looking up. Memories are forever!

We had to convince Kathleen to leave happy hour that one Thursday night it snowed in December! We were having too much fun wondering if school would be cancelled and taking pictures of the snow! Travis and Akins are missing you.
