Paul Fleischmann Obituary
Stuart, FL
Paul Leo Fleischmann sailed into the sunset on November 11, 2016 in Stuart, FL. He was born in Germany in 1927 to Carl and Minna (Kohler). The family fled the Nazi regime ten years later, landing in Kew Gardens, NY. He attended Queens College, excelling at soccer and attaining Phi Beta Kappa; he then served in the US Navy. As a Certified Public Accountant, he moved to Sarasota in 1959 to establish Shapiro, Fleischmann and Co. An active member of the Temple Beth Sholom community and, after retirement, a volunteer with SCORE, he resided in Sarasota until 2013. He loved travel and, as an Old Salt, proudly logged over 50 weeks at sea on Windjammer cruises.
His wife, Lillian, predeceased him in 1990. He nurtured a loving legacy: children Susan (Ginny), Peter (fiancée Cheril), Carla Gubernick (David), and Robert (Shelly). He was Pops to seven grandchildren Alex (Grabiner and his mother, Ellen), Jerremy and Nathan (Fleischmann), Benjamin and Lee (Gubernick) and Aaron and Abby (Fleischmann). His daughter-in-law Karen predeceased him in 2013.
A preposition he would never end a sentence with. Once you met him, you were his friend, ensured of a dinner invitation and an annual whistling birthday call. All who knew him admired greatly his free spirit, unique sense of humor and work ethic. He taught us all how to play.

I met Paul on a Windjammer cruise and sailed on several cruises with him. I visited him in FL many times and know he was a very special guy. I have received many whistled Happy Birthdays from him as well. We shared a birthday month and I am missing his call now. I know he cherished his children and grandchildren and he missed his wife every day. I am sad to learn of his passing, but will think of him on a sailing ship somewhere in the Caribbean enjoying a rum swizzle.

I was with Mr. Fleischmann on several occasions and did feel many of the kind attributes listed in these rememberances. The very best gift I received from him was his spectacular daughter, Carla--- and the family that grew from her... He was a treasure demonstrated through his children, grandchildren and the grand community of friends he left behind. Comforting wishes to every one of you.
