Kathleen Munday Obituary

Old Lyme - Kathleen Jane "Kathy" Munday passed into the hands of Our Lord Super Bowl Sunday Feb. 7, 2021, the thought of Tom Brady winning another championship being the last straw. Kathy was born May 31, 1949, in Woonsocket, R.I., the third child and only girl of nine.

After the family resettled in Old Lyme, she graduated from Old Lyme High School in 1967, and went on to college at Eastern Connecticut State University where she received a degree in education. After substitute teaching at Center School in Old Lyme, but not finding permanent employment, she started working at EB Publishing, a job she truly loved, partly because everyone in the office had the same birthday, but mostly because she had a great boss in George Rickle. Kathy's first love, though was teaching children which she did running a daycare in her house and then working for Children's Discovery in East Lyme until it closed.

Kathy was proceeded in death by her father Gerard Edward Munday Sr.; her mother Mildred Helena (Pat) Munday (Walker); also by her twin brothers, David and Denny. Kathy is survived by her two older brothers, Gerard E. (Jay) Munday Jr., and his wife Jenny Kenneth Lee Munday; and by her younger brothers, George Francis, Brian Norman and his wife Bonnie, Kevin Patrick and Christopher John. Kathy also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and friends whom she loved with all her heart.

Calling hours will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday March 13, with private burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Kathy's name to your favorite charity. Please visit www.fultontherouxoldlyme.com to sign the online guestbook and to leave a tribute for Kathy's family.

Kathy was a great friend. It was never a problem getting teams together to play any ball games at Kathy's house. We would be playing ball games in the backyard and my mother would yell out the back porch window Nancy come home for supper and off i would dash. The family house was a gathering place for the neighborhood girls on Saturday where we would practice our dance moves to Bandstand. Even after I left town when I came back i would visit Kathy and catch up on the news of the town or our mutual friends. I have so many good memories of growing up with Kathy and the rest of the family. Rest in peace my friend.

Kathy was always one of the kindest people on this earth. I have many great memories of her as we grew up on the same street, and continued to live in the same neighborhood as adults. Your family has my deepest sympathy. She will be missed by all that knew her.

Kathy and I were classmates for six years at OLJSHS, and we had a pleasant visit at the 50th reunion in 2017. I'm saddened by your loss and share my deepest condolences with the family.

Kathy and I grew up on Beckwith Lane in Old Lyme. I was very excited when the Mundays moved to town as I now had a female playmate my age. Many fun times growing up with both of our families as our parents were good friends also. A favorite memory of mine is every Saturday afternoon we danced to American Bandstand in her living room. Other memories are playing ball in the spring and summer behind the telephone exchange (before their addition). She was such a nice person and will be truly missed.

I can't imagine my childhood without Kathy and her family in it. I will always remember those days. My thoughts are with your family. Thank you for those years,
