Patricia Mudge Obituary

PATRICIA MUDGE
DRYDEN - Patricia Mudge, age 82, of Virgil Road, Dryden, NY, went home to her Lord and Savior on May 27th after a lengthy respiratory illness. "Patti" was born February 11, 1927 to Mordello and Dorothy (Babcock) Munson of Virgil, NY. Patti moved to Dryden after her marriage to Perry Mudge, with whom she would spend the next 63 years on the farm on Virgil Road. A graduate of the Famous Artists School of Connecticut, she was an accomplished artist and taught art to many area children. She was a master at and taught sewing, and made prom and wedding dresses. She enjoyed making, painting, and sewing the clothes for dolls. She held the title of Master Gardener and enjoyed operating her own business, Patti Mudge Greenhouses, for over 20 years. She was a 4-H leader for more than 35 years. Patti loved to sing, dance, go camping, laugh and spend time with her family. She was a member of the former theater group, The Dryden Footlighters, and played several prominent roles in their productions. Patti was a member of the Dryden Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and AWANA programs. She would most wish to be remembered for her love and desire to serve her Savior.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Perry Mudge of Dryden; sons, Jim (Carolyn) Mudge, missionaries in the Solomon Islands, and Dennis (Pat) Mudge of Florida; three daughters, Nikki (Eric) Akins of Florida, Lori Mudge, also of Florida, and Melissa (Mike) Sweeney of Cortland; 20 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Al (Bev) and Russell Munson; and a sister, Connie Bach.
A memorial service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2009, at the Dryden Baptist Church, with Pastor Ronald Miller officiating. There are no calling hours. Memorial condolences may be sent to the Dryden Baptist Church, 138 Virgil Road, Dryden, NY 13053 or to the Cortland Christian Academy, 15 West Road, Cortland, NY 13045. Nikki and family, Please accept my sympathy at this time. It has been a few years since I stopped and bought veggies and plants from your mom. The mention of her name brings back the memories of all the Wonderful Halloween Costumes she would make for you..especially the Rooster one. Think of these memories and smile, it helps us get through these times.

To the Mudge family,
I remember the 4-H club, the meetings, the sledding on the hill across the road from your house, swimming in the pond, playing in the hayloft(and the rotten egg and tomato fights!)Endless shuttle trips for 4-H activities, wherever they were, in a VW van stuffed with overactive kids. In the middle of it all your Mom kept an eye on us and when needed, curbed our youthful enthusiasm when it got out of hand(more than once if I remember right). She was always there to encourage, demonstrate and congratulate you for a job well done. How she managed to retain her sanity amist the insanity we managed to generate is still beyond me. I will always rember the boundless care and love she lavished on her family.Even though I have not seen you all for many years, I will miss her. With sympathy and great sorrow, your long ago neighbor, Eric Joyce

I met Mr. and Mrs. Mudge some years ago when I started buying their wonderful fresh veggies; especially tomatoes, to supplement my own for canning. Wonderful people; easy to talk to... For a while I worked at a home store that they would visit and I always felt grateful to be able to help a bit when they were there.
I drive by the house every day on my way to work now, at Extension; something we could share and I got to hear some of the years of involvement with 4H, Master Gardener's, and that the kids and grand kids are still very in tune with it all.
Tonight, as I read the Cortland Standard online and saw her name there, I automatically looked up to see the plant from Mrs. Mudge that fills my window... I've had it for years; restarted it and returned some of it to her at one point... I still don't know the name of it, but it fills my window with flowers several times a year and they are the most beautiful thing ever... and the scent of them fills my home...It's about 12 feet long from side to side now and if anyone would like a piece of it to start in memory of her, I'd be happy to pass some on; it's larger than life; just like she was!
I will miss you Mrs. Mudge... it was a very precise and limited relationship, but it meant a whole lot to me...
I see Mr. Mudge has the garden in this year in spite of everything... somehow the world seems okay to me when I see that. But I know it's changed for you today, Mr. Mudge; my prayers and thanks are with you.
