Richard Howard "Dick" Hopp, Jr., 81, of Lake Wales passed on September 9, 2014. Cause is pending. Dick and his wife, Shirley Mae (nee Russell), have been long time residence of Lake Wales. Dick was active in veterans causes, and his local homeowners association. He was born June 11, 1933, to Richard Howard Hopp, Sr., and Helen Wetterer Hopp of Cincinnati, OH. Dick, a U.S. Navy veteran, was an Engineer and had worked several jobs all over the world. He was a big man with a larger than life presence. He never met an individual that he did not consider a friend. Dick is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Shirley, their 4 children (and their families), Richard "Rusty" Hopp of VA, Anthony "Tony" Hopp of, TX, Rhonda Jones of MS, and Patrick "Pat" Hopp of GA; 12 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren; sisters Nancy Maynard TN, John Hopp, VA, and Susan Izdepski, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Services for Mr. Hopp will be on Friday, September 12th, 11 a.m., at Holy Spirit Church in Lake Wales, FL

I did a search for his obituary, and it was #1. That is Dick. It was my pleasure to meet Dick in 1994 or so and remain friends, keeping in contact all these years sharing Christmas cards and a call from time to time.
June 28 was the last time he called me. I always had time for Dick. I had just returned from an international trip and was going to have a coffee with some other friends, but I took Dicks call as usual!
I will miss the calls from my friend. I will pray for him, his family and friends! I'm deeply saddened by this news and offer you my deepest sympathies for this huge loss to Shirley, Rusty, Tony, Rhonda and Pat. Plus other family members.

I WORKED WITH DICK MANY ,MANY TIMES AS A YOUNG PIPEFITTER APPRENTICE OF LOCAL UNION 392 CINCINNATI, OHIO. HE WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST WELDERS I EVER KNEW & HE TOOK ME UNDER HIS WING & WAS MY MENTOR. I CAN STILL SEE HIM WITH HIS POLISHED BOOTS HIS BIG BRASS BELT BUCKLE & HIS PEARL BUTTONS & EVERYTHING CREASED & IRONED.I'M GLAD I KNEW HIM. I SEND MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO DICK'S FAMILY.
