Scott Catlin

Henrietta - Charles Scott Catlin, 74, died early morning on May 24, 2021.

Born in Bluefield, West Virginia on February 23, 1947, Scott was the oldest of four children and spent most of his childhood on U.S. Airforce bases in Texas and Florida as his step father, Frank Catlin, was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Airforce.

As a young man, Scott enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was sent to Vietnam after basic training. In Vietnam, he served in the infantry and then moved into the Criminal Investigations Division (CID). Upon his return from Vietnam, Scott (known as Charlie by his military friends) was stationed at Parris Island, South Carolina, and Camp LeJeune, North Carolina, where he continued his role in the CID. During his service, Scott was awarded medals for National Defense Service, Vietnam Service, Vietnamese Campaign, and Good Conduct. He received the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, a Navy Achievement award with "V," and a Combat Action Ribbon. He was most proud of the Purple Heart.

He and his wife, Rebecca (Becky) Brown of Henrietta, met and married in Texas prior to his stationing in South Carolina.

After Scott left the military, he moved to Texas to work with his father-in-law, Lewis Brown, in the cattle business on Brown Ranch in south Clay County. Scott was always a man of many interests, and later he career-shifted again to working in the car business, as a salesman and sales manager where he made many friends in the area.

Scott was always very civically-minded, and he truly loved Clay County. He served as a City Councilman and later Mayor of Henrietta.

One of Scott's other passions was supporting and serving as a Field Officer for the organization, Hunting with Solders, a 501(c)3 nonprofit that provides hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities to Combat Veterans. Scott also was one of the originators of the Clay County Turkey Fest, held annually on ranches in the Clay County area.

Scott was preceded in death by his mother, Kathy Berry, his father, Frank Catlin, and stepfather, Robert Berry. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Catlin, and his two daughters, Stephanie Corken and husband Kevin of Cypress and Abigail Brown and husband Josh of Henrietta. He is also survived by his three sisters, Candy Broxson of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla; Judy Bouchard of Navarre, Fla; and Leslie Catlin of Washington, DC; as well as many loving family members, nieces, and nephews. Also survived by the great joys of his life, his grandchildren, Ryan Donovan and Natalie Donovan of Cypress, TX; Sarah Brown of Phoenix, AZ; and Katie, Meg, Brittany, and Elizabeth Corken of Cypress, TX; and godson, Shawn Broxson of Washington, DC.

A memorial service will be held for Scott on Tuesday, June 1st at 2 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home in Henrietta, Texas.
