Harriet Douglas Obituary

DOUGLAS

Harriet Mable (Pitzen)

With granddaughter, Brianna, and son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Grace at her side, Harriet Mable (Pitzen) Douglas died on Friday, September 21, 2012. Born to Herman and Harriet (Curtis) Pitzen on April 27, 1923, Harriet survived tuberculosis as a child. She graduated from Waite High School in 1942, and attended Unity U M Church (formerly Oakdale E U B Church) where she and Donald Wills Douglas were married on October 9, 1943. Although a homemaker most of her life, Harriet worked for a number of years at Oakdale Elementary School in the school lunch program, retiring in 1983. She also assisted in the Feed the Hungry ministry at the former Euclid U M Church. Harriet frequently assisted with funeral luncheons and special events hosted by her church.

Harriet was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Austie, Anna, Helen, Herman, Raymond, Madeline, Julia and Lois. Don preceded her in death in 2003, one month before their sixtieth anniversary. While still living at home, Harriet's constant companion was her Yorkie, Heidi.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Lawrence (Betty), Lance (June), Mark (Kathy), Timothy (Grace), Philip, and daughter, Nancy (Robert) Robinson; fifteen grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Harriet will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Unity U M Church, 1910 E Broadway, Northwood, OH with Rev. Harold Black officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Harriet's honor to the charity of the donor's choice. The family thanks the kind and gracious staff at Point Place Rehabilitation and Care Center for their care of Harriet in her last months of life.

All my love and hugs to the Douglas family. The memories are great of the get-togethers of the Lee and Douglas families; Uncle Don & Aunt Harriet, my parents and all of us kids - what a blessing. It's hard to be so far away, but know that I'm thinking of you often. God Bless! Jane Lee Schwartz
