Shirley Beregi

Shirley (Ritz) Beregi, 76, of Jacobs Creek, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, in Excela Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. She was born July 29, 1937, in Jacobs Creek, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Katherine Manack Ritz. She was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Jacobs Creek, the West Newton Senior Center and enjoyed sewing, baking, canning and spending time with family. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Beregi; a great-granddaughter, Kaeleigh Jo Beregi; five brothers, John, Ernie, Pete, Steve and Nicholas; and five sisters, Helen, Joann, Mary Lou, Mildred and Betty. She is survived by three sons, Mark Beregi and wife, Kathy, Joseph Beregi and wife, Vicky, and Shawn Beregi and wife, Rebecca; grandchildren, Anthony, Sean and wife, Nicole, Katelyn and fiance, Mario Rendina, Kandice, Sarah, Dereck Hustek and fiance, Kate Signor and Jeffery Hustek. She is also survived by a great-grandson, Jordan Beregi; niece, Kathy (George) Matey; nephew, Greg (Joellen) Ritz; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the L.L. BARTHELS FUNERAL HOME INC., 2nd St., Smithton. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Jacobs Creek, with Father Edward Pahanich as celebrant. Burial will be in West Newton Cemetery. A Panachida service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Newton Senior Center.
