Betsy A. (McDonough) Mahern, beloved wife of the late James Mahern, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Born in Hartford the daughter of the late Nelson and Marcella Ducey she had been as Fairfield resident for the last 58 years. A graduate of Central High School she later received her Bachelors Degree from Smith College. After raising her three sons, Betsy began her career in the fragrance industry. She worked for Colonia Incorporated retiring in the mid 1990's. She was a parishioner of St. Pius X Church and a member of the Fairfield County Hunt Club. She will be fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who delighted in spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include three beloved sons, Kevin McDonough of Clinton, Lawrence McDonough of Hanover, NH and Sean McDonough and his wife Colleen of Glastonbury; five cherished grandchildren, Katie, William and Thomas McDonough and Lauren and Jimmy McDonough and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Carol Harding. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 10:00 a.m at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
