I worked for Ernie Pandelos in the early 1970's as a dish washer and then bus boy at the Wheeling Esquire. Ernie gave me my first ever corporate promotion by allowing me to become a bus boy. I too remember Nick, his brother, and remember his parents every day working in the back part of the Esquire kitchen. Ernie was always square with me and I always remembered him and Nick fondly. I remember Nick borrowing my Army surplus field jacket one weekend when he needed one for his Army Reserve weekend, as he had forgotten to bring his. I wish all the best for the Pandelos family. Sincerely Roger Linger

Christine: What can I say but thanks for your Dad's warm welcome to me and my family and I know my Dad was a huge client going to the bar and singing along with Nelson playing the piano. Everytime I come with my Dad, you would come over and chat with me and make me feel wonderful as we were PTHS 1983 classmates and I never forget how wonderful you were to me and I see that from your Dad and he was a wonderful gentleman and I will deeply miss him and pray for you and your family! There will never be another Ernies Esquire at all and I will always remember! Take care and hugs!

Mikie,
Mike and I had a lot of good memories around Ernie and the Esquire. The Greek dances we always attended at the restaurant. When Mike first bought a car, he would wake Ernie up around 7:00 in the morning and they would drive on first street until Mike was able to drive by himself. They shared a lot of crazy times together. My sympathy at your loss.

Mikie, my husband and I are so saddened to hear about Ernies passing. Words cannot express how much he touched our lives. We had the best times of our lives sitting at ernies esquire with him and charolete after the rush of the dinner crowd had gone. We laughed alot and also had some very interesting conversations. Ernie would call jack just to talk sometimes and he will never forget his friendship..There will NEVER be another Ernie. He will be in our hearts forever.

To Ernie's family, I want you to know how kind Ernie was to my sons, Scott and Paul, as they grew into young men. They were bus boys and then did valet parking. Earnie kept a good eye on them. He is in peace now.

Ernie was a proud and competent restaurateur who brought the word coquille to Wheeling diners. The Piano Bar was the place to be on Saturday evenings and the Waterfall Room was the gathering place for family events. He will be remembered for the memories he helped create for hundreds of locals who drank, danced and conversed into the wee hours of the morning. Rest in Peace.

My deepest sympathies to Charlotte and Ernie's family. Many happy memories I have working for him. I learned a few things I still practice today. I never enter the kitchen empty handed. I always carry something in with me. I can still see him big as life with those worry beads. I use to love to go to the Butler mansion with Charlotte and Ernie. So many memories. Ernie had the greatest mom and dad. They were both so sweet and I know they are waiting with open arms. I pretty much learned to drive in his brand new Cadillac El Dorado. ! Rest in Peace Ernie. You were one in a bazillion ❤

Mikey, my friend I am thinking about you. What memories I have about the times at the Esquire plus the many Sunday dinners at Momma's. He always enjoyed catching up on all of the many people he knew from Wheeling-Pitt. I can't help but think about the wonderful food (loved those hot dogs too) you always provided when there was a cookout. Ernie loved you and I do too. May light perpetual shine upon him.
