Helen Mavroidis

Mrs. Helen (Tsistinas) Mavroidis, 87, of 10265 Jacob Mack East, Waynesboro, PA, passed away Friday, February 17, 2012 in Quincy Village, Waynesboro. Born September 18, 1924 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Elias and Androniki (Dallas) Tsistinas. Mrs. Mavroidis graduated from Astoria High School, Astoria, NY with the class of 1942. She and her husband, the late Mr. Michael Mavroidis, were married April 27, 1947. He passed away May 30, 2002. Mrs. Mavroidis was employed as a secretary at Ford Instrument and as an employment counselor at Career Temps, Inc. She later worked as employee relations manager, later becoming director of employment at Long Island Jewish-Hillside Medical Center. She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church and Fairway Women of Bethpage, NY. Mrs. Mavroidis was an accomplished bridge player who also enjoyed the game of solitaire. In earlier years, she was also an award winning golfer. She is survived by two children, Andrea Christopher and her husband, Michael of Waynesboro and Michael L. Mavroidis and his partner, Dana Bennett of Weymouth, MA; two grandchildren, Niki Welge and her husband William of Tallahassee, FL and Michael Christopher, Jr. and his wife, Deanna of Cranberry Twp., PA; one great-granddaughter, Isla Welge of Tallahassee; one brother, Theodore Tsistinas of Jacksonville, FL; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Tsistinas and George Tsistinas. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 21, 2012 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, February 24, 2012, in St. Parakevi Greek Orthodox Church, 1 Shrine Place, Greenlawn, NY, with Fr. Dimitrios Moraitis officiating. Burial will follow in Pinelawn Memorial Park, Farmingdale, NY. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M., Thursday evening, in Brueggemann Funeral Home, 522 Larkfield Road, East Northport, NY.
