Ruth Pessek

Ruth Mathilda Pessek was born on May 27, 1918, in Epworth, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Herman and Bertha (Miller) Moerke. Ruth was baptized as an infant on July 21, 1918 in Epworth, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on March 30, 1932, at Main Street Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, Minnesota. She received her education in the Hutchinson school district #423. On April 12, 1947, Ruth was united in marriage to Henry Pessek in Mason City, Iowa. This marriage was blessed with five children, Thomas, Nancy, JoEllen, Marcene and Kathleen. Ruth and Henry made their home in Hutchinson. They shared 56 years of marriage, until Henry passed away on February 7, 2003. Ruth was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. In her younger years, Ruth worked at Kurth's Bakery in downtown Hutchinson during WWII as a baker. She also worked at the Coca-Cola factory as a bottler. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. Ruth enjoyed beadwork, making crocheted doll outfits, sewing, embroidery and crocheting. She learned to crochet by watching her aunts and made over 200 crochet afghans, which was shipped all over the country to family members. Ruth, Henry and their children did everything together. On most Sunday's she'd pack a lunch and they'd go for a drive and have a picnic. She enjoyed fishing and did a lot of canning over the years with the food grown in her large garden. Ruth especially cherished the time she spent with her family, grandchildren and friends. When Ruth needed assistance with her daily care, she became a resident of Ecumen Oaks in Hutchinson, Minnesota, on August 1, 2008. She passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Hutchinson Health in Hutchinson, Minnesota, at the age of 94 years. Blessed be her memory. Ruth is survived by her: Children, Nancy Stueber and her husband, David of Cosmos, MN, Marcene Hopp and her husband, Richard of Hutchinson, MN; Grandchildren, Tim Pessek, Joel, Amanda and Desirie Stueber, Gena and Darcy Martin, Travis, Neil and Becky Hopp; Step-Grandchildren, Thomas Malchow and Mary Hannas; Brother, Raymond Moerke of Bellflower, CA; Many other relatives and friends. Ruth is preceded in death by her Parents, Herman and Bertha Moerke; Husband, Henry Pessek, Daughters, Kathleen Pessek (in infancy), JoEllen Martin and her husband, Daniel; Son, Thomas Pessek and his wife, Linda; Granddaughters, Michelle Martin, LeAnna Martin (in infancy); Sisters, Leone Olson, Verona Giving; Brother, Marlin Moerke.
