I would love to get in contact with the family of David for personal reasons. I love his story and want to know more about him as I love local military history. My name is Ellis and my phone number is 7636479969 and my email is [email protected]. If anyone has a contact in the family, please contact me! Thank you for your service David.

David worked for me part time with the City of Morris back in the early 2000s. He had a great sense of humor but the thing I remember most about his was his maturity for such a young man - he helped me through a tough period. Hardly a day goes by when I do not think about him. His military photo remains on my desk. Hope to get up to the cemetery this summer to again pay my respect to my friend.

I spent a year in law enforcement school with David. Life took us to our separate departments. I was absolutely heart broken when I heard he had been killed overseas. Dave was a joy to work with in school. God bless sir. It was a heart wrenching class reunion at his funeral. We won't forget you Dave.

To the family of Staff Sgt. David F. Day:
As you may know, the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation has honored your loved one at its Memorial Day Sunday worship service (each year in May) … since the time of your fallen hero's ultimate sacrifice. We will continue to pay tribute to our nation's veterans … lest we ever forget!
Now we would like to honor you … as the next-of-kin … who have also paid a great price on the altar of liberty. On Sunday 29 September at 11:00 a.m. we will host a Gold Star Family Sunday.
I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship … as we pay tribute to your sacrifice. Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain (Colonel-Retired) Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “By Dying, We Live.” The special music will be the husband/wife vocal/piano — Wickman Duo. Following the worship experience, your family is invited to attend a social time in our Fellowship Hall … with some light refreshments.
As this historic chapel has limited seating, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org
If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.
Respectfully,

The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Christian Memorial Day Remembrance worship service at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, 26 May 2013. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the bordering states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with some 300 white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.
The Memorial Garden will be encircled with larger white crosses representing all of the wars of our nation's history and give honor to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces and made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. Wreaths will be placed at the foot of each 8-foot cross bearing the number of U.S. Service Members killed in each of America's conflicts.
I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “Freedom:Free, but Costly.” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and there place poppies at each of the crosses. A Memorial Rifle Squad of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery will fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played. Following your visit to the Memorial Garden, your family is invited to attend an informal reception (weather permitting) outside of the Chapel. The Memorial Garden will remain until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, 27 May (Memorial Day).
As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org Special rates for nearby hotels will be available. For more information call (651/286-7296) or email the office ([email protected]) and leave your name and contact information.
Also, beginning at dusk (8:30 p.m.) on Saturday 25 May through dawn (6:30 a.m.) on Sunday, 26 May, a “Prayer Vigil for Peace” will be held in the sanctuary of the Chapel. You are invited to stop by, light a candle and place it at the foot of your loved one's cross in the Memorial Garden … and then enter the Chapel for prayer.
If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also to let the Day Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

Your name was sent to me by Gaye Bishop who also lost a son in the conflict. Therefore, I am sending the following which I try to get out to as many families of fallen soldiers as possible. My sympathies are with you.
Prayer Shawls 4 Fallen Soldiers ([email protected]) is an organization with groups throughout the country who strive to send handmade prayer shawls and/ or lap robes to families who have lost a loved one in service to our country. Members of Trindle Spring Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg, PA would like to honor your son and husband's sacrifice and memory by sending our prayers and comfort through a shawl which we will mail to you. If you are interested, please contact me at [email protected] with the names and addresses and what they would like to receive. We will send them as soon as possible. Also, if you know of any other families who are grieving the loss of a loved one who died serving our country, please pass along my e-mail address, as our organization can no longer get family contacts through the military. May God bless you and comfort you in the days ahead. Sincerely, Lynne

hey, i am very sorry to hear your loss of David F. Day. Although i didn't know him, by the sounds of the reading, he was a great man. At our assembly today we got slips of paper with people that passed in the army, and i thought i would recognize him. For his family, and wife, just know he is watching over you and he's still there, just in your heart. I thought it was sweet how he proposed to his wife, and i will remember this great man till the day i die. I have a brother in the marine's course right now still hoping nothing happens to him. And again, Im am sorry for your loss.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I was distant cousin of Staff Sgt. David Day. We used to go on hay rides together and swing at his grandfathers tree swing. All I have to say about this is that I'm very proud of him that he took the ultimate sacrifice for his country. P.S. We'll see you after we reach the pearly gates of heaven.

I found this site upon looking for research for a persuasive essay I am writing for a class. I had decided to persuade All Americans to respect and appreciate our American soldiers whether they believe in war. Putting a face and story to the soldiers that fight for our country and rights is powerful.
I am very sorry for your loss and god bless you all.
October 31, 2006
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To the family of Staff Sgt. David F. Day:
The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Memorial Day Sunday worship service at 11:00 a.m. on 28 May, 2006. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the neighboring states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.
I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain, LTC Kenneth L. Beale, Jr. will preach a message entitled “What Are We to Remember?” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and place poppies at each of the crosses. An honor guard squad will be on hand to fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played.
As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (612/970-7866) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans’ name and the number of persons attending. If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.
Respectfully,
Leila Campbell

Psalm 23
1
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3
He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!
My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

I am with the unit formerly known as 1/194th Ar Battalion Headquarters Staff (Now 3/194th CAB). I was assisting with processing soldiers from this unit at Camp Ripley, MN. I didn't know this Sergeant, but felt I should write something to express my sympathy to his family and friends. Most of the soldiers I met from this unit were friendly and solid soldiers, as most soldiers in the MN National Guard are. I have served for 20 years in the Army and hope that tragedies like this will be able to be reduced in the near future.

Dear Mrs. Amy Day and Mr. and Mrs. David Day,
I recently learned of the loss of your loved one in Iraq. May I offer my belated condolences to you all upon the passing of your American hero husband/son, David, in Iraq in February.
Please know that other Americans share in your loss and are concerned. It is my prayer that God may continue to grant you and yours an extra measure of peace, comfort, and strength during this difficult time.
May David’s legacy of bravery and devotion to our country and its safety be a source of pride to your family, an inspiration to his peers, and forever remembered by a grateful nation.
With deepest sympathy,
Sincerely,

I first met Dave when he came to our Deparment as a C.S.O., and it took very little time to see that he was a very genuine individual. As time went on, and I had the priviledge of working with Dave as a partner, I saw what a humble and loyal person he was. Dave valued his family and friends, and especially his wife and I knew this from the way he talked about and described them.
Dave never expressed regret for having to go to war and told us about all of the good things that he intended on doing and he backed those words up and lead by example.
Dave's passing was a very sad day for all of us and we pray for his famiy and other friends. The world is a better place for having David Day in it.

I am officer with the St. Louis Park PD and met Dave when he initially started as a CSO in 2002. Words cannot describe the friendship and love he gave to us all. There will always be a sadness in my heart for the friend that laid his life down for us. Keep an eye on us, Dave, just until we meet again. Your friend, Mary.

I knew Dave all through high school, worked with him at Willie's, and had the priviledge of serving with him here in Iraq. He's always been an all around good guy. I could always talk to him about anything at any time, and he was always caring towards other people, no matter who they were. Everytime I was around him we were always joking around about something. I think about him every day, and I'll never forget him. He saved another man's life when he died, and I would've done the same for him without question.

It is difficult for any family of a fallen soldier to understand and cope with the loss. There is always doubt as to whether the mission was worth the sacrifice. Having been in the Infantry, I know that when soldiers are in battle, the lofty goals and ideals disappear and it is only you and your buddy...and every soldier knows that his buddy will never let him down. This trooper did his best and that is all that can be asked. No matter the outcome of this war, his fellow soldiers will never forget him and his legacy will live on.

I had the pleasure of working with Dave at St Louis Park. I can only say how saddened I am for the family, his wife, friends, coworkers and all those who had not met him yet. He was a wonderful man and I know his parents must be so proud of the man he turned out to be. For the short time I knew him he left such an impression and will never be forgotten.

Grieve not for me for it has been ordained, that my journey here be short.
Grieve not for me for my loyal presence will ever remain in your heart.
I was sent to be a Guardian, for the Guardians of law in blue.
A fearless, noble protector, with a bond that few can construe.
With character unshakable, and senses that are well heightened, I was sent to be a defender, so that your burden here would be lightened.
Grieve not for me for in heavenly blue, our reunion day will come.
Grieve not for me for as partners again, We will defend a greater kingdom.
We will miss you D Day, We'll never forget badge 247.

I had the privilege of working with Dave when he was a CSO and a police officer for the St. Louis Park Police Department. Dave was one of the finest young men I have ever known. He always had a smile on his face and a positive outlook on life. He was loyal, honest, well-liked and respected by everyone – he truly exemplified the values of the Police Department, the Army and the Scouts.
I’ll never forget how excited Dave was to buy Amy a car and propose to her before leaving for active duty. He wanted everything to be perfect. Of course we were all thrilled for both of them, but perhaps a little bit envious too!
I am proud to have known and worked with Dave. There are no words to express my gratitude for his service to the St. Louis Park Police Department and to our country. He is truly a hero who will not be forgotten.

To David's family:
I did not have the pleasure of knowing David, but from reading everyone's tributes, he obviously was a well respected young man.
I chose David's name while worshipping at the Marble Collegiate Church in New York City last Sunday from amoung the many soldiers who have recently died serving their country. I wanted you to know that you (David's family) and David have been in my prayers this week. I light a candle to honor his memory each night and try to imagine what you must be going through.
I will be joining my friend this Saturday in welcoming her 20 year old son back from Iraq. I so wish that David was amoung the courageous young men returning home.
Please know that you will all continue to be in my prayers in the coming weeks. I'm so very sorry for your loss.
Sincerely, Wendy Picardo

Katie, Troy and family -
I never personally had a chance to meet David, but by reading the entries in this guest book, I can tell that he was a very well liked man. David sacrificed his life, for the life of a fellow soldier and he will be honored by many.
I hope in time and with the comfort of knowing that David is with us in spirit, you can find peace and comfort to move on.
David will never be forgotten.

It is at a time like this that I realize how insignificant the human language really is. There are no words that can really say how we will miss Dave or how he made us better people by being our friend and co worker. It is not enough to say he was brave. It is not enough to say thank you. His attitude about his work, family and friends defies being captured on a page of paper with mere words. He was and always will be a real example of the biblical phrase,” No greater love has any man than he who will lay down his life for another.”
Thanks Dave

I was fortunate to have known and worked with Dave. I met Dave when he began working as a CSO at the St. Louis Park PD. During his time with SLPPD, he became a very dear and close friend. He was great to be around as he always had a smile on his face and was never negative. Dave was always there to help out when needed, on the job and off the job. Dave was extremely proud when he became a sworn officer, and it was a privilege to work with him side by side on the streets.
Dave did not complain when he got called to Iraq. Dave saw this as a way of helping other people. This was Dave's best characteristic, he was always helping others, no matter what. It is no surprise that Dave was helping his fellow comrades when he was tragically taken away from us. Dave died doing what he loved to do, and he did so with honor.
Dave was very well respected at our police department and in the community. I hope that when my daughter is grown, she will find a loving man like David Day. He was the best of the best. He was the friend that everyone wishes for.
David Day will be missed. Sorry to see you go buddy.

DUTY HONOR COUNTRY is the Army Motto and David exemplified it! I met David when I returned to the St Louis Park Police Dept. from my own tour in Iraq. I met a man who, in the short time that I was gone, had already earned the respect of the entire department. David was the guy that everyone liked, he was always smiling and was forever humble. The Army sets values by which all its soldiers are to live their lives: LOYALTY, DUTY, RESPECT, SELFLESS SERVICE, HONOR, INTEGRITY and PERSONAL COURAGE. We can benefit from living by these values as David always did. David was a leader in life and will continue to lead us by the example he set. Having served in Iraq I can say that I was very proud to have been apart of something bigger than myself, there is nothing quite like serving your country when it is in need. I'm sure David was very proud to have served, we were lucky to have him.

To David's family and friends~
I had the great honor of getting to know Dave through the police department as his background investigator and friend. He was truely a stand up guy with a heart of gold. There wasn't a single person there who could say a bad word about him. He was an excellent officer and a fine addition to our department. He will be forever missed, but always in our hearts. I know he is watching down on everyone~ keeping all those who serve, safe! Thanks Dave!

David and I were in the Law Enforcement Program in Alexandria. We had almost every class together, and we often pushed each other to excel in the very competitive manner that only two good friends can. He left the program early to take on a cadet position with St. Louis Park Police Department. David and I had a lot in common, and we kept in contact. He was a bright and determined individual, a hard worker, and a caring friend. I last talked to him before I left for Kuwait, when he told me of his activation and we discussed what kind of car he was going to buy his girlfriend/soon to be wife, Amy before he left.
It is unnerving how much we had in common; both in the military, the same rank, both Eagle Scouts, both serving our respective communities in Law Enforcement, both recently married before our deployments to Iraq...
The news of his passing dealt me a great blow.
I believe that David is the better man described in this piece below.
“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made so and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself”.
John Stuart Mill (1806-1873)
