Elizabeth WHITMAN Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 14, 2014.
1918 ~ 2014 Died August 7, 2014 of congestive heart failure. She was a passionate educator, curious traveler, family genealogist, historian, hiker, and bird watcher. A graduate of Vassar College and Columbia University, she served as the director of religious education at Unity Unitarian Church in St. Paul from 1948 to 1972. She loved nature and built a cedar home in the woods near Afton. Socially conscious, politically active, and an avid reader, she valued simplicity and integrity. Her family relied on her clarity and her ability to see the essential. We miss her greatly. In lieu of flowers, please give to one of Betty's favorite charities: Feeding America, Doctors Without Borders, Planned Parenthood or the Nature Conservancy. Gathering of family and friends in the Parish Hall at Unity Church, 733 Portland Ave, Saturday, August 16, from 11 to 1.

I will always remember Ms Whitman. As one of the many youth who had the wonderful opportunity to participating in the religious education program she ran, she contributed to my growth as a Unitarian and person. There are so many of us who are grateful for all her contributions to Unity.
