Roger was in my high school Art class at St Paul Central. At one point I learned that his wife was a calligrapher as I was. I hope to see his art work someday.

Roger shaped my life. He found me as a half-recluse in the woods near Itasca state park. He walked down the path to my cabin and invited me to a dinner of sautéed grouse that evening. He kept an eye on me from a distance and slowly offered me opportunities to challenge myself and develop skills in the world of handcraft. This eventually led into the arts. Decades later when I would thank him he would say, "That's too bad".
I would never become the original he was... and he never let me forget it. He always said he knew of very few true artists, besides him. But, this was a wry humor, half honest and half flippant.
Roger was innovative, entrepreneurial, skillful, and visionary beyond most peoples' ability to even imagine. He was a truly rare one.

Roger inspired many people with his art. His many unique views of Lake Superior & its ability to turn colors. He inspired many art students, artists, patrons & people who live with his vision through private & public places. When I see his painting on view at the Duluth Library. I think about the many unique vision that we've seen. Through shows at our Art Gallery to friends homes & his work we live with in our home. Our prayers & fond memories of Roger are felt for his family Dawn, Maple & her family
