Margaret Sargent Obituary
HOLLAND PATENT, NY - Margaret (Meg) Kier Sargent, 87, died peacefully on October 19, 2018.
She was born to Samuel and Margaret Purdy Kier in Aspinwall, PA. She attended Muskingum College and Tufts University, finishing with a Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy (OT). She met her husband, Howard F. Sargent, while hiking in the Adirondack Mountains and they were married in 1962.
Margaret was predeceased by Howard, in 2007, after 45 years of marriage. They are survived by their three sons, Howard, Matthew and Daniel; and their three grandchildren, Nicholas, Margaret and Dariusz.
In addition to a long career as a respected occupational therapist, Meg taught OT classes at Utica College and volunteered with the League of Women Voters, at Holland Patent Elementary School and Upstate Cerebral Palsy. Meg was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Holland Patent. In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, hiking in the Adirondacks, working on literacy and Fair Trade issues, supporting progressive social and environmental causes and perfecting her craft as a Master Gardener.
A Celebration of Meg's Life will be held at Dimbleby Funeral Home, in Holland Patent, on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in her name, to Stevens-Swan Humane Society, Utica, NY.
