Your 95.5 has been keeping your voice alive. You are truly missed. I like many others have grow up waiting to hear what you had to say about current events. So much so that for a while I wanted to do news. But I wasn't cut out for the extra drama. Thanks for inspiring us. I pray that your family was able to stay strong. I also pray that you all continue to be blessed.

As I am having a rather stale cup of coffee this afternoon at work, I too remember David and his "burnt toast and coffee time" saying each day. I live in Chicago now but grew up in Milwaukee. RIP Dave Haines

Just wanted to say Rest In Peace & add my respects. I grew up with DC area radio & im reading Cerphes book right now. I had a strong memory of David saying its burnt toast & coffee time with enthusiasm that perced me up in the am before I ever picked up a coffee habit. I know this comes long after the fact but just wanted to share that from an era when Real djs talked & walked the earth.

As I drove into work this morning I heard those famous last words "IT'S FRIDAY". Thank you WPGC for keeping Mr Haines' memory alive. A great loss to us all here on earth, a great gain to heaven. My prayers are with you David and your family.

It truly saddens me to hear of the loss of David Haines. I wondered why I hadn't heard his voice on air in the past months. I am just finding out what happened. When I heard Donnie speaking with David's wife and children on the air one day recently, I sensed a feeling of sadness in their voices. So, I searched on-line and low and behold, I saw that he had passed. David's voice is surely one to remember. A truly magnificent person has left us, but we will see and hear him again in the next life. My condolences to the Haines and WPGC family on this loss. R.I.P David. Heaven has truly gained a great person!

I think David Haines, was the coolest news director ever. Everytime he said "burnt toast and coffee time", that just made my day. My 10 year old son and I couldn't wait until Friday, so we could say it's Friday, right along with him. David is truly a professional in heaven. You will truly be missed. May God continue to bless your family, extended radio family, friends and listeners.

I have listened to David say "It's Friday!" for as long as could remember. My father was in the Army so I didn't settle down till I was 8. I join the Army in 99 and moved out of VA but brought a piece of the area with me. On Fridays I would always shout "It's Friday!" When I came home for vacations, I was quiet sure I was home until I heard it said again. David always had a way of telling news so that even as young as I was I would listen to it. So what I am saying is David did his part in making VA home for me and he will truly be missed.

As David's daughter, I want to thank each and every one of you for your kind thoughts, memories and prayers. I grew up with this amazing man, and I smile when I read how he touched your lives. I know he was special, and I am trying to live my life in a way that would make him proud. Please continue to pray for those still here...I know my daddy is in God's house having a party and being bathed in Jesus' light, but I miss him terribly.

Now, YOU go out into the world and make a difference like the positive difference my dad made in your life! I know my daddy would like that ("you know that's right!!!").

God Bless You, Lynn

I recently moved to Florida, but I am a native Washingtonian and as many of the other guestbook signees, I literally grew up listening to Daid Hanes and the rest of the PGC family in the AM. David Hanes' voice was always so enthusiastic about the new day (especially Fridays!!) that no matter what side of the bed you woke up on he could get you excited too. He will truly be missed by not only his family, but by those of who had the pleasure of hearing his voice daily. God bless.

July 29, 2005

I would like to send my condolences to the family and work family of David Haines. I litterally grew up listening to WPGC and ofcourse one of the highlights of listening to the Donnie Simpson show was David. I was saying "It's Friday" along with David Haines since I was in kindergarten, and now at 22 I realize the significance in being excited about Fridays. Everyday for the past 14 1/2 years I've let David Haines and the rest of the WPGC family into my life, and it does feel like a personal loss because we let these people in our lives everyday, they become a part of our lives, and when we loose someone that we're used to having in our lives everyday it leaves a void. David, no one will ever take your place on the radio, and even now after you're gone, when I hear your voice say it's Friday, now I get chills. You will truly be missed, I send my condolences to the blood family of David Haines and the WPGC family of David Haines. Now everyday is Friday for David. God Bless.

To this day...I still can't believe David Haines is no longer with us. I just can't accept the fact that he's not there to help us enjoy the weekend. He always put a smile on my face with his silly screaming Fridays. Everyone is right...Fridays are not the same anymore. I have been listening to burnt toast and coffee time for many many years now and things are just different without his voice. Even though I have never met this man it feels as though I've known him since I was a little kid growing up. My heart goes out to the Haines and WPGC Family. David, you will be missed dearly!

My prayers go out to the Haines Family. Personally, I have grown up listening to David Haines in the morning on my way to school. His words "Its FRRIIDAAAAAAAYY" always brought a smile to my face and being that I was in school, I lived to hear those words because that meant one more day of school before the weekend. He will truly be missed. Thanks for everything David Haines. It was truly a pleasure.

To the Haines Family, as well as the WPGC Family, I was truly shocked and very saddened to hear of the loss of one of my FAVORITE radio personalities. I have been a fan and listening to David since I was a teenager and LOVED to hear him announce IT'S FRIDAY, letting me know that the weekend was underway. Although I didn't know him personally, his dynamic spirit and beautiful disposition made you feel as if you were one of his best friends. The only time I would have breakfast would be with David, dining on burnt toast and coffee. :-)

Friday mornings will never be the same for me and I know that soon, I will stop crying when I think about not hearing my favorite phrase...IIIIIIITTTTTTT'S FRIIIIIIIIDAAAAAAAYYYYYYY!

We all love David but God loves him more. I know that it's hard but do know that God will bless you and keep you in His care! You are definitely in my prayers.

July 18, 2005

I was so very sorry to learn first of David's ill health and then his death. The first time I met David was on a Friday morning at the bowling alley in Gaithersburg. My family had planned on going, but prior to the event, my sister, Ann, was diagnosed with breast cancer. She started to cancel, but came instead and David said a few encouraging words to my sister. Well, my sister is now an 8 year survivor and I wish I to say thank you, David and offer some encouraging words to your family, because you will be truly missed. Every day and especially on FRIDAY.

Manuelita Smith

July 18, 2005

David will truly be missed. Every Friday my 6 year old and I would listen to the radio while getting ready for our day and when he heard David yell "IT'S FRIDAAAAAY" he knew that the weekend was there. He loved to hear him and so did I. There will forever be a void in the early morning radio. I will miss my burnt toast and coffee time but the memory will love on forever. Be blessed.

David you will be so missed. I have 2 boys who have grown up with burnt toast and coffee and they're all time favorite "IT'S FRIDAAYYYYY". We had a 1 hour commute and it was our morning wake up call to hear all the antics between the morning crew. I depended on David to give me the lastest news along with some laughter. God Bless the Haines family and his extended WPGC family. His memory will live on in us all.

To the Haines Family and the WPGC Family: I just want to say that I am truly sorry for your loss. I actually was out of town in baltimore for a couple of days in my hotel when my friends called to tell me of the news. I could not wait to get in the car to actually here the news for myself. I was deeply saddened to know that a man with such an uplifting spirit had passed away. My son loved listening to David remind us every friday morning that "ITSSSSSSSSS FRIDAYYYYYYYYYYYYY". My friend and I listened all afternoon on monday to the tribute they did for him and what a beautiful job they did. Instead of crying though, we smiled and jammed along to David's favorite song "I can hear it coming in the air at night, Oh Lord, and I been waiting for this moment for all my life, Oh Lord" knowing that he wasn't in any pain anymore and was watching over all of us. May God continue to bless you all and remember whenever you think of him, just smile and know that he made not just yours but everyone's day and he will never be replaced.

Cheryl Warren

July 17, 2005

My condolences to the Haines and the WPGC family. I'm a former WPGC listner who remember hearing Mr. Haines do the morning news and tell you the "burnt toast and coffee" time and his "it's Friday" saying. To his family, take comfort in knowing that he is in Heaven with our Heavenly Father still giving the "burnt toast and coffee" time and letting all the angels know that its Friday. May God be with you all throughout your hour of grief.

David Haines passing was quite hard to take. He was an icon to Washington's WPGC radio listeners. A wonderful voice that all WPGC listeners loved to hear....I normally listen to the Friday morning broadcast, but this past Friday I found it hard to listen knowing David is not on the air...I always looked forward to hear him say, "It's Friday!". But I listened to the show later in the evening when they honored David in a special broadcast. To the WPGC staff, it was truly a nice tribute to Mr. Haines. To the Haines family and to the staff at WPGC, please know that you were quite blessed to know such a wonderful person and I will continue to pray for you....

David Haines...thank you for making my Fridays....

God Bless You...

Listening to the news will never be the same, especially on Fridays. Also David's weekend community "Viewpoint" segment will be sorely missed. God rest his soul.

July 15, 2005

On Monday morning, as I was driving my son to his Grandma's house I caught the tail end of a conversation Donnie Simpson and Chris Paul were having. At first I suspected that David had gone to another radio station. But something in their voices told me that it was something much worse. Then my suspicions were confirmed after I got back into my car to drive to work. Hearing of David's passing hit me like a ton of bricks. I was in shock and disbelief. I drove to work in a daze with tears streaming down my face. I felt like I had lost a dear friend, I felt like all of the WPGC listeners. David was an angel on earth who touched so many people in such a deep and spiritual way that some of them didn't know how they had been touched until now. I'm one of them. I've always been a WPGC listener, but Fridays I listened just to hear David say those two words...It's FRIIIIDAAAAAAAYYYYYYY! After hearing how spiritual David was and what those words meant to him, I will not look at Fridays just as the end of the work week and the beginning of the weekend. You see, his son-in-law told the WPGC listeners that David held Fridays close to his heart because that was the day that Jesus died. That is so very deep and I appreciate David so much for leaving me with a constant reminder of that.

To his immediate family, thank you so much for sharing David with us. We are so much better off having known his radio personality. I so appreciate that and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. To his WPGC family thanks for sharing the balloon release with me and my son, it was beautiful! Hang in there and take it one day at a time, it does get better. I'll be praying for you. To the loyal WPGC listeners, always keep David in your hearts and he will live on in us.

To the Family of Daivd , I truly will miss his voice on the radio on Fridays, I always was glad to hear that before the students came into my room. But most of all I want to say a few words to you.

Life is a series of challenges and tests. It comes fully equipped with pleasure and pain, sunshine and rain. It is a potpourri of every feeling imaginable. I have been in the storm ( two weeks ago, I lost a great nephew) and I have stood by the ones I love in the storm, and I must tell you that the storm does pass after a while. The thunder quits clapping, the rain stops, the clouds clear, and the day breaks. If you are blessed to live a long and happy life, you will see many triumphs and face many challenges. You will laugh with glee and you will wail in pain. You will experience every feeling known to man. You will see good times as well as bad. No one is exempt from bad times, no one can hide from pain. They are realities that knock on the doors of both mansions and shacks. They visit people who have everything and people who have nothing. Yet in the midst of it all, when you and your family are facing situations without David that seem to have no rhyme or reason, it helps to know that somewhere in and beyond the passion and the pain, there is GOD.

The Lord Himself gives us new days. He sees us through the storms and the night times. So what about those stroms? They will cease. And when they pass, you will be safe in the arms of the LORD, the Master of all seasons.

To the Family of Mr. Bruce "David" Haines - thank you for sharing such a wonderful person with the world! I was so shocked when I turned on my radio while driving home this afternoon and learned of David's passing. I didn't need to meet him to hear the kindness of his spirit and gentleness of his heart to know that he was a beautiful person.

To David, THANK YOU for keeping me sane on the tough highways of the DC area and for always greeting us on Friday mornings with your famous "IT'S FRIDAY!" saying! You were truly wonderful to listen to and made me smile so many mornings!

As a child you don't take the time to listen to the news in the morning, but David Haines was always there to tell me what was going on in the world and let me know that the weekend was here with his signature phrase. That tradition was passed along to my children, who are young, but loved to hear him every morning as a part of their daily routine. He was a joy to listen to and will be greatly missed by all.

As you can see Mr. Haines had many fans. I am surely one of them. I enjoyed listening to him on the way to work in the morning, he spoke with such "intellectual enthusiasm" that no matter what the news was good or bad you could handle it because it was coming from David. I can feel the hurt in voices of his co-workers a I listen in the morning. I just wanted to thank you for sharing such a wonderful man with the world - and know he will be truly missed.

To the Haines & WPGC family:

My thoughts and prayers are you with you during this time. Although David is gone in the physical form his spirit still lives on. I've never had the pleasure of meeting David. However, this mornings tribute gave me a true picture at just the type of genuine human being David was. Truly, it is evident at just how many lives he has touched with mine being one.

May you look to God for strength and comfort during this difficult time in your lives.

The first thing I do when I come to work on Fridays is turn my radio on just to hear David Haines say "Its Friday", after that, I can then get on with my day. Even though my fridays won't be the same, I will always remember the slogan. Blessings to all of his family.

My deepest sympathy to the Haines family during this very difficult time of reflection. We, the listening audience, are very fortunate to have benefited from Mr. Haines' many talents. And for that opportunity, all are greatful.

The loss of your loved one will be felt by many. I've been listening to Mr. Haines with the "burnt toast and coffee time and a minute the hour" for years. Not only had I grown to love and appreciate his work but when I had children I introduced my children to him on their drive to school. We all truly loved his spirit and the famous saying, "it's Friday..." It truly made for a great day and commute. We'll keep you in our prayers. RMSM

When i first heard the news - sat silently, cry and prayed. I thought today was going to be easy for me because I grieved. I thought I would be able to say a silent prayer and continue with my day but after listening to the many tributes and remembering the many stories that David told - tears continue to fill my eyes. I never met David but he was part of our family. When David would break into the middle of a show, I knew something big has happen. To be prefectly honest - I did not watch the news because of all the negativity in the world but David was the only news I would listen to. He has enlighten us with his funny stories, his infectious sense of humor and his knowledge of the news. My family will truly miss a great man.

To the Haines family - nothing will ever replace the husband, father, friend or MAN! Our prayers are with you today, tomorrow and forever.

To the Haines family as well as his WPGC Family I would like to express my deepest sympathy to you all. David will be truely missed.

I have a poem here to The Haines and WPGC Family.

I'm safely home in Heaven,

though I know you miss me so.

The love I've always felt from all of you, within my heart still flows.

My spirit will remain with you all every single day,

appearing as a rainbow or an ocean wave at play.

I'm in the gentle rains that fall, and the morning dew.

All you see that's beautiful

reflects my love for you all.

I didn't mean to cause you pain,

my time has simply come.

The work that I was meant to do

On earth has all been done.

I'm safely home in Heaven,

where Eternal peace is mine.

And, where, when GOD has called upon you all too, I'll be forever Thine.

Love Always,

Your Father, Your Husband and Your Freind. (David Haines)

To the Haines and WPGC Family,

We were deeply saddened to learn of the death of David Haines. A voice that was able to give us that extra push, when Friday took its time to come. Having never met David personally, we truly felt him to be a part of our Friday morning routine. Be in comfort to know that not only was he your husband, father and friend, but he touched the lives of many people and will be remembered as an American icon.

Words cant even express what an impact you have made on the WPGC listening community. You were a steady part of my daily routine all the way through elementary school and college, to adulthood.

I remember listening to you with my friends in the mornings, and often getting tongue tied and announcing that it was "Burnt Coast and Toffee Time!" I had the opportunity to meet you once, and you were nothing but gracious and kind. You have taught others to always try to find some humor in times of tragedy. Heaven has gained another angel. God Bless your family and loved ones.

To the Haines' Family:

I extend my deepest sympathy with the loss of David. As you well know he was well loved and respected by everyone who listened to WPGC. It was always a pleasure to listen to him, especially on a Friday morning. I had no idea when I listen to the show this morning that the listening community lossed a great announcer. May God Bless and see you through these trying days.

Everytime my mother & I moved all across DC, no matter what section of the city, 95.5 was the station to get out the door with. Fridays were not complete without David preparing you (while turning the volume up) of what to get through the day for, FRIDAY! But this Friday I found out the hard way by not letting my 7 hear the radio at breakfast to get out the door faster. Getting back from my fam. reunion on Monday & not finding out til today. He wont be happy to hear the news this evening, but at least he (like the rest of us) had the chance to get out the door w/our burnt toast & coffee. My favorite, was the "Crooks are stuuupid" department. You will be sorely missed & thought about- litterally every Friday-while still jammin to "PGC". Keep the news going upstairs too.

I was truly saddened to hear of the great loss of David Haines. I looked forward to having his "Burnt Toast and Coffee" and listening to the "Crooks are Stupid" and let's not forget "IIIITTSSS FRIIIDAYYYYYYY!!!!". When you heard David tell the news, you heard his passion.

To the family and friends,

He will very much be missed, but, never forgotten. My heart goes out to you and may God bring you peace and comfort during this time. Just know that David is still smiling at you from heaven above.

My deepest symphathy to the Haine's family. I haven't listed to WPGC for many years, however, I always thought about 'burnt toast and coffee' and started my weekend saying 'it's FRIDAY!!!!" and, I will continue to do so--in David's memory.

May you find comfort, peace, and joy in your memories.

If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. John 14:3

Please know that my deepest sympathy goes out to you all at this very difficult time. I definitely sympathize with you. But I know that our Father in heaven will get you through the days to come if you trust and believe in Him. Please know that many prayers are being said for you and your family at this difficult time. Your weeping may endure for a night but the sweetness of knowing that your love one rests and abides with the Lord will bring you joy in the morning. God bless and keep you all.

Always know that David will truly be missed. Especially hearing him say "ITS FRIDAY"

I am very saddened by the loss of Mr. Haines. The tribute that was played this morning, which included clips from David behind the song "I'll Be Missing You" had me and my nine year old daughter in tears as I drove to work. Although I never had opportunity to meet Mr. Haines, I felt like I knew him. He had a certain flair that will never be replaced by anyone.

I hope that WPGC will continue to honor Mr. Haines's memory as long as they exist. He was a class act and will be sorely missed. My condolences to Mrs. Haines, his children, the WPGC family and all us listeners who have been affected by this loss.

Well, today is Friday, but it's not going to be the same as it used to be.

David Haines was one of the most memorable personalities on the radio. When I was growing up all the children who would ride the school bus would quiet down just to listen to him announce "It's Friday". I am truly heartbroken and wish his family as the best in the world.

To the Haines & WPGC Family,

God is watching over you with a close eye, that's why David was called to be with him. God needed another right hand man. And who better but David could do the job. David's voice will forever be inscribed in my memory and heart. May God continue to watch over the entire family and remember David is in the best place he could ever imagine.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of sadness. It's hard to understand God's plan, but we are not to question it. God needed David more than we did. He will truly be missed.

To the family of David Haines and the WPGC family,

The morning news will never be the same. We will have to keep track of our own "burnt toast and coffee time", while using our imagination to describe the latest news. "David's" creative way of describing the news will ever be missed. We will have to keep the memory and legacy of "David" alive through F-R-I-D-A-Y and every day.

May God bless you during your time of sorrow and keep you through his grace.

Blessing,
