Jacqueline DeLaat Obituary

DeLAAT JACQUELINE DeLAAT "Jackie" (Age 66) Of Marietta, OH died Friday, April 24, 2009. She was born March 19, 1943 in Chicago, IL to Eleanor and Neill DeLaat. She earned her Bachelor''s degree at the University of Iowa and a Master''s degree in Political Science at the University of Minnesota. Jackie then spent ten years in Washington working for governmental and quasi-governmental agencies, forming lifelong relationships within the Community of Christ in Mount Pleasant. Jackie left DC to earn her Ph.D. in Public Administration from the University of Pittsburgh. While teaching at Marietta College, she earned the McCoy Teaching Award (among others) and published Gender Issues in the Workplace: A Case Study Approach (2008; 1st ed.1999). She is survived by her sister, Christine DeLaat, brother, David Williams, husband, R. Michael Smith, and daughters, Meghan Walt and Michelle Smith. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 1 at St. Luke''s Lutheran Church in Marietta, OH. All are welcome at the family home, 416 Sixth St, in Marietta, between 2 and 6 p.m. on Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Dr. DeLaat''s memory to support Marietta College students enrolled in American University''s Washington Semester Internship Program.
