LINDA ANTHONY Obituary

ANTHONY LINDA KEMP ANTHONY Linda Kemp Anthony, long-time resident of Maryland and the District of Columbia died on June 12, 2015 at Stanley R. Tippett Home in Needham, Massachusetts, with her children and their families by her side. She had recently moved to the Boston area from Kensington, Maryland to be near her daughter and son-in-law. Linda was born in Evanston, Illinois and grew up in Highland Park, IL. She received her bachelor's degree at Vanderbilt University and then moved to St. Louis where she worked in the Department of Child Psychiatry at Washington University. She then enjoyed several exciting years in New York City before moving to pursue her Ph.D. in Educational Administration at the University of Wisconsin. From 1986 to her retirement in 2014, she devoted her career to working for public higher education at the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. A strong believer in community and civic responsibility, she served for many years as Chair of the Board of Directors at the McClendon Center in Washington, DC. Linda was all love, for her children most of all, as well as for a wide circle of family and friends, and the world at large. She was unwaveringly kind and generous; these qualities were her very core. With a serene and thoughtful presence, she viewed life with great clarity and always knew what was important. Her love will live on in the lives of the many she touched at each stage of her life. Linda is survived by her children, Amy Anthony and her husband Alex Taylor of Jamaica Plain, Mass., and Joe Anthony and his partner Rikki Johnson of Chevy Chase; new granddaughter Huxley Anthony; and brother Tom Hamilton and his wife Lois of St. Louis, MO. Linda was looking forward to the birth of grandson-to-be, Baby Taylor. She was married for 24 years to Bruno Anthony and remained very close with the extended Anthony family, including her late father-in-law, E. James Anthony, and his wife Virginia Anthony, and her three sisters-in-law and their families. Linda will never be forgotten. I met her doing Meals on Wheels for New York Ave. Pres. Church, and I was immediately impressed with her kindness & graciousness. Then I served on the McClendon Center Board as her Vice President. What a joy to serve with her. Jenean McKay

Linda was an angel! She was President of the McClendon Center, which provides mental health services to DC residents at New York Ave. Presbyterian Church. It was an honor to work with her. She was smart, level-headed, and patient. Her leadership was low-key, but very effective. I loved Linda. Her dedication to those in need was exemplary. Although I am broken-hearted at this news, I am very grateful to have been a friend of hers and to have learned so much from her example of facing life with a realism and joy that I will always cherish. My deepest sympathy goes to all her family.

To the dear families , I send my condolences to you on the loss of your love one, I do not know you personally, but it is amazing that she live such a long life, not many of us do. Think of the changes she must have seen in this world during her life time. May the God of all comfort be with you at this time of sorrow. Psalm 90:10
