JOHN MOYE Obituary
John Moye
Born January 7, 1936, in McAdoo, PA, passed away peacefully in his Cocoa Beach, FL. home on February 21, 2017. His devoted wife of 56 years, Eileen, cared for him until the end. He is survived by her, his three children, Chris, Eileen and Craig; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Lindsay, Alex, Katerina, Kendall and Addison. Upon his discharge from the Air Force, he attended college at the Newark College of Engineering, now known as the New Jersey Institute of Technology. His first job was with Western Electric in Virginia, but it was the space challenge by President Kennedy that led him to a career at the newly formed NASA. He was first an engineer/physicist at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. During the 60's, he was instrumental in the development of both the SpaceLab, the Space Shuttle and then the analytical studies to determine the viability of the Space Station. Among his many awards was the coveted "Silver Snoopy Award" presented by astronauts as recognition of outstanding achievement. It was his work with the SpaceLab and Space Shuttle that led to his retirement many years later in Cocoa Beach. Anyone who knew John recognized that his inner drive pushed him to achieve a Master's in Engineering Administration degree from George Washington University. He always emphasized the importance of education, preferably in technology and science. This passion has been passed on to his children and grandchildren. He was always proud of his children - the oldest, Chris who is a VP and Senior Partner with IBM in their automation and artificial intelligence group of Global Enterprise Transformation Cognitive Process Services; his only daughter, Eileen, also a VP of Innovation and Transformational Change at Intuit in Silicon Valley; and lastly, the youngest Craig, Director of Advertising Products at eBay Marketplaces. John's grandchildren were always the apple of his eye. Jennifer, the oldest, is Senior Sales Rep. in IBM's Hardware Group and has recently been admitted to the Columbia Business School to begin in fall of 2018. Her sister, Lindsay has graduated with honors from the University of South Carolina Nursing School with a Bachelor of Science degree about to accept her first position in ICU. Alex, John and Eileen's only grandson graduates this December from George Mason University with a major in Marketing, minor in Economics.. Katerina is a senior at Palo Alto High School and has recently been accepted to Northern Arizona University next fall. Craig's two girls, Kendall and Addison are following in their parents' footsteps and will surely be academic stars as well. John's passion for learning and travel has been passed to his children and grandchildren. A service was held at Our Saviour's Church, Cocoa Beach, in March, but per John's wishes, he will be interred at Arlington Cemetery on November 6, at 2 pm. Friends, relatives and former co-workers who might want to celebrate his passing are welcome to attend.
