GERALD VARNEY

FOREST HILLS,Ky. — Gerald Thomas Varney, 65, of Forest Hills, Ky., passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the Tug Valley Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 28, 1951 at Williamson, W.Va., to the late Russell Varney and Margaret Allred Varney Wellman. He was also preceded in death by his step-father; Earl Wellman.

Gerald was retired from Norfork Southern Railroad as a forklift operator and train loader. Gerald was an avid UK Wildcat and Pittsburgh Steelers fan who loved to fish and play basketball, but most of all he loved his grandbabies.

He is survived by his wife, Joann Lewis Varney of Forest Hills, Ky.; his sons, Jamie Dale (Bobbi) Varney of Huddy, Ky., and Thomas Jason Varney of Belfry, Ky.; brothers, Rodney Varney of Forest Hills, Ky., and Roger Varney of Forest Hills, Ky.; his grandchildren, Madison Shade Varney and Makayla Jaylyn Varney and a host of other loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon, Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Ed Lockard Officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky., with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6p.m. til 9p.m. Tuesday night at the funeral home. R. E. Rogers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at rerogersfh.com

So sorry to hear about Gerald. We were friends starting from first grade until graduation from high school and beyond. Since my move to Lexington we lost touch somewhat except for a few reunions and a couple of times I was able to stop by his house and visit. I will cherish all our memories. My prayers are with you.
