William M. Shue M.D.

YORK William M. Shue, MD, 77, of York Township, Friday, October 5, 2012, at York Hospital due to complications following surgery. He was married to Nelda (Gross) Shue and the couple celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this past June. Born on June 18, 1935, in Spring Grove, he was a son of the late Spurgeon T. and Elizabeth (Stauffer) Shue. He was a graduate of Spring Grove High School, Franklin and Marshall College, and Thomas Jefferson Medical School. As a physician, he served as a general surgeon at York Hospital for over 35 years and also served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps to include a tour in Vietnam. His long and devoted service to the community included the York Medical Society (including a term as President); the Patient and Family Advisory Council at York Hospital; the York Fair Board; the York Symphony Board; the York Benevolent Association; the consistory of Trinity United Church of Christ; and Zeredatha Lodge 451, Free and Accepted Masons. He was a member of the Country Club of York and past president of Prospect Hill Cemetery. He was an avid reader, a passionate world traveler, and a connoisseur of gourmet food. He enjoyed bicycling on scenic trails, working out at the Jewish Community Center, exploring Nantucket Island, and expanding his horizons at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the Penn State University. In addition to his wife, Dr. Shue is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Wong and husband, Leonard of Dillsburg, and Margaret Shue of Newton, Mass.; his wonderful grandchildren whom he thoroughly enjoyed, Captain Andrew Wong and his wife, Jessica, Lydia, Rachel, Abigail, Joshua, and Jonathan Wong, and Elizabeth Reid; and a brother, Spurgeon T. Shue, Jr. of Spring Grove. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at Trinity United Church of Christ, 32 W. Market St., York. A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 S. George St., York (the former Hahn Home). In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the York Benevolent Association, P.O. Box 5042, York PA 17405; or the York Symphony, 50 N. George St., York, PA 17401; or to a favorite charity.
