Annabelle Oczon Hammer



Annabelle Oczon Hammer, age 63, passed away peacefully in Fairfax, VA on August 11, 2023. Annabelle was born in the Philippines in the town of Ibajay, Aklan on the island of Panay. Annabelle's family moved to The United States when she was five. She was naturalized as a US citizen in 1973. Annabelle graduated in 1978 from West Mesa High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, graduating in the top 10 of her class. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and economics, graduating Suma Cum Laude from the University of New Mexico, and gained membership in the Phi Beta Kappa honorary society. She then earned a Master of Arts in International Relations from the University of Chicago in 1985. She moved to the Washington, DC area and began her thirty-year career working for US intelligence services. The services honored Annabelle with multiple career service awards. She retired in 2015.

Subsequent to her retirement, Annabelle ran the Fairfax County chapter of Project Linus, which donates handcrafted blankets and quilts to needy children. During her tenure, Annabelle was responsible for the distribution of approximately 20,000 blankets to children in the northern Virginia area.

Annabelle loved to laugh and had an impenetrable smile and positive attitude that spread joy to everyone around her.

Surviving Annabelle are her husband, Jonathan Hammer, and her two children, Juliet Amanda Hammer, and Jeremy Andrew Hammer. She is also survived by her mother, Arsenia Oczon, brother Arnel Oczon, sister, Agnes Saltman, and multiple cousins.

A private, family funeral service will be held at Fairfax Memorial Park Funeral Home in Fairfax, Virginia, on Thursday, August 17.
