David Faulkner Obituary

David R. Faulkner

8/23/1943 - 5/20/2025

Dave bid his final farewell, passing peacefully and quickly after a short illness.

Dave was a true original, a curmudgeonly spirit with a heart of gold. He served for two years in the Navy Reserve before returning to school to earn his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of New Mexico. He spent his career as a gifted graphic artist, known for his striking illustrations of cars. His passion for automobiles didn't end at the drawing board: Dave owned more cars than anyone could reasonably count and found joy in the thrill of amateur racing. He will be sorely missed by his many car-enthusiast buddies.

He is survived by his son, Michael; daughter-in-law, Amanda; cherished granddaughter, Vivienne Mina; his sister, Susan Slates; and niece, Lisa Presley, and a circle of friends who understood his unique blend of sarcasm, smarts, and warmth.

In honor of Dave's life and his love for animals, donations may be made to Animal Humane New Mexico or a charity of your choice.

I´m one of Dave's "car enthusiast" buddies and I'm definitely going to miss him. I recall his stories of all the various cars he owned over the course of his life and of living in Los Angeles and street racing on Mulholland Drive and Angeles Crest Highway with Steve McQueen, James Garner and I believe James Coburn. To Dave, they were all "car guys" first and famous Hollywood actors second, which is how they wanted to be viewed by their "car guy" peers.

Dave indeed had a quick wit, was adept at sarcastic humor, loved animals and was a "car guy" to his core. As much as he loved cars, his son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter were his foremost love and the bright, shining lights in his heart and soul. Dave was a good man, quiet, intelligent and humble, who lived both an amazing and long life, leaving behind a solid legacy. I hope he´s in heaven reminiscing with Steve, Jim and Jim about their nights in L.A., street racing and being chased unsuccessfully by the constabulary. May he rest in peace.
