Miriam Friedman Obituary

Miriam Friedman

Miriam Friedman died on July 23rd, 2024 after living a full and vigorous life.

She was born in Brooklyn NY on November 23, 1934. A friend once told her it was impossible to dance at two weddings at once. She made a concerted effort to do just that trying to squeeze two lives into one. She attended Antioch College, graduated from Denver University and received an M.A. degree from UNM.

Miriam was a combination jock and culture junkie combining her love for sports participation with a passion for reading and attending performing arts events. She had been a member of several book discussion groups and attended classical music, theater, film, dance and opera performance events with boundless enthusiasm. Miriam was an enthusiastic tennis player participating in three National Senior Olympics, swam a half mile daily, biked on a host of national and international adventures and was an avid downhill skier. Her love for travel took her to more than 100 countries, all but two of the states in the union, most of the Canadian provinces and all seven continents. She served on the board of directors of the National conference of Christians & Jews, American Association of University Women, Jewish Family Service, Hadassah and The Sisterhood of Congregation Albert. She also served as a gallery docent at the Albuquerque Museum.

Miriam arrived in Albuquerque in 1958 joining Congregation Albert at that time and remained an active member until her death. She was married to her best friend and life mate Herb (Dr. Herbert Friedman) for 68 years, and was proceeded in death by her beloved husband in 2022.

She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Saul and Debra Friedman, Daniel Friedman, Naomi and Lane Findley; as well as her adored grandchildren, Nathan (and wife Madison), Jake, Annie, Morgan, Alana and Kiera. Donations in her memory may be made to Congregation Albert, Opera Southwest or one's charity of choice. Please visit our online guestbook for Miriam at www.FrenchFunerals.com.
