Nancy Patricia Hampton, 76, of Los Ranchos, NM, died peacefully March 4, 2021.

She was born in Windsor, Ontario on March 17, 1944.

Nancy entered the Adrian Dominican Congregation, days after graduating from High School, on June 26, 1961. She was then "missioned" to teach in the Catholic schools of Chicago where her specialty was in teaching the primary grades with expertise in the teaching of reading. She taught first grade at St. Philip Neri School in Chicago, IL for the last 10 years of her time in the convent and then left the Congregation in 1975 and resided in the Hyde Park area of Chicago. In 1976 Nancy was a reading specialist at Josephinum High school. In 1979 she moved to Albuquerque. She graduated from the University of New Mexico with a master's degree in Speech and Language and taught in the Albuquerque Public Schools as a speech therapist. After retiring from APS she taught reading to dyslexic children for many years. She was a treasured friend to many who were the grateful recipients of her goodness and peaceful ways and to whom she imbued her love of nature and the southwest.

Nancy was the beloved daughter of the late Edgar G and Pauline E Hampton (Poisson). Sister to Paul M. Hampton and wife Lydia; Edward M. Hampton (deceased) and wife Joanne; Robert G. Hampton (deceased) and wife Dori; Mary E. Dick and husband Jeffrey; Mark D. Hampton and wife Mona; and Kathy A. Trepanier and husband Tim.

Loving Aunt to 16 nephews and 9 nieces. She was married to Gary Ashurst for thirty years. She was survived by her husband and his son, Ian Ashurst and wife Amanda Gray and their children Jason and Meghan.

Considering the public health issues at large today, there will be no scheduled public memorial. In lieu of that Nancy was a great supporter of Doctors Without Borders, The Nature Conservancy, The Rio Grande Nature Center, and various wildlife organizations for those who might be inclined to contribute in her name.
