Timothy Callahan Obituary

Timothy Andrew Callahan III

Timothy Andrew Callahan III, a devoted family man and steward of New Mexico's lands, passed away January 2nd, 2025 after several years of illness. Known for his biting wit and endless puns, Tim could light up a room with a well-timed story or a clever joke. He was often spotted behind the wheel of his beloved 1965 Jaguar or walking his cherished Boston Terrier, Dooley, around the neighborhood.

Tim was born in Baltimore to Dr. Timothy Andrew Callahan II and Virginia Dooley Callahan, both of whom served as medical professionals during WWII. At a young age, the family relocated to Mosquero, NM, where Tim's father served as a small-town practitioner. After losing his father in his early teens, Tim often remarked that the Mosquero community helped shape him and his siblings.

Following a tour of duty during the Vietnam War, Tim sought a peaceful way to serve his community. He earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of New Mexico and began a career devoted to public service. As a District Resource Manager with the NM State Land Office, Tim managed public lands with a deep passion for preserving natural beauty while securing funding for education. He took special pride in collaborating with his colleagues at the State Land Office on the development lease that helped establish the thriving Mesa del Sol community.

Above all, Tim treasured his family, friends, and the vibrant landscapes, people, and animals of New Mexico. He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his sister, Sharon; his brother, Peter; his daughter, Erin; son-in-law, Paul; and his grandson, Rowan Timothy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Audubon Society in Tim's honor:

Uncle Tim was one of the most kind and generous men i have had the honor to spend time with. He loved good wine, great beer and good conversation. I will miss him.

First met Tim and Kathy in '71 via Linda Olson where during 25 years we enjoyed many adventures including finding that '65 Jag in Corrales. He was indeed a family man, a dedicated public servant and a man intertwined with nature and our environment. He will be missed, especially as a fellow combat Veteran of Viet Nam. My sincere condolences to his Kathy, Peter and the entire family. Tim was a good man, a very good man!

Hi Kathy

I left a lame message on your voice mail, sorry.

I just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear of Tim's leaving us. I will always miss knowing he is a around and our too few meetings.

I hope you are coping well enough. I know it must be a pretty big hole. I hope time will soften it for you.

The best tlo you and yours

Tim was a great guy and a valuable employee at the NM State Land Office. I was happy to bring him on board there after he worked in my campaign for that office. He was one of the best natured people I have ever known.
