Wilma McBride Obituary

Wilma Humphrey McBride

On the evening of April 15, 2023, Wilma McBride peacefully passed away. She was loved greatly by her family and friends, and will be remembered for her joy, laughter, and care.

Wilma was the fourth of six children, born at home to Jewel Talkington Humphrey and Abraham Humphrey in Dover, Arkansas. In the marching band at Arkansas Polytechnic College (Arkansas Tech University), she met Sam McBride, her husband of more than 60 years. The McBride's lived in Dallas, Texas, Rancho Palos Verdes, California, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, before moving to Cypress, Texas. They embraced each new community and developed deep and close friendships wherever they lived. Wilma and Sam raised two daughters in a home full of love and laughter. A highlight of Wilma's life was time spent with her grandchildren creating, imagining, and exploring.

With a desire to work with children and families, Wilma earned a MA in Human Development from Pacific Oaks College and directed the preschool at Rolling Hills United Methodist Church in California. She continued her career of helping children as a social worker at the University of New Mexico's Young Children's Health Center. Later Wilma worked as a realtor in Albuquerque.

Wilma is survived by her daughters and grandchildren who will miss her dearly. Wilma's family wishes to thank the staff at Village on the Park Steeplechase for their compassionate care over the past few years. Her family will celebrate her life with a private service.

I will always remember Wilma and Sam as I have kept Wilma in my thoughts for the past 33 years. Wilma was counselor for my husband and me when our 6 yr old son passed away in 1990. Wilma assisted us through that time with compassion and care. I eventually became a therapist myself in 2013. I carried on the genuineness and compassion shown by Wilma. I have looked for her and Sam online for the past few years not knowing she was in TX. Just found her obituary today. Know that she touched oh so many lives and is remembered with much affection. Sending prayers of comfort and peace.

Wilma was a wonderful, funny, giving lady. She was my boss for a few months at the UNM Child Care Center so very long ago. She was the best boss I ever worked with. Wilma and Sam were the best.

I enjoyed having meals with Wilma with my mom at the Village , she would end up give me a psychoanalysis of me before the meals where done. She is missed.

I loved your mom. She was a strong compassionate woman. She helped everyone be a better person.
All her girls and her sweet Sam were the beat of her heart. She will be remembered and cherished.

So sorry to hear this. Wilma and Sam were special. My father, L. D. Horn, thought they were special too. Prayers for comfort for the family
