A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 224 West 5th Street in Crowley, Louisiana for Leah Denise Fruge' Mire, 70, who passed away on October 16, 2023, at her home in Broussard, Louisiana after a courageous battle with cancer. Although the disease may have taken her earthly body, it never took her courage, sense of humor or tenacity for life. Msgr. Keith Derouen, Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church-Opelousas, will officiate for the services. The family requests that visitation be observed at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral located at 301 North Avenue F, Crowley, Louisiana on Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. A rosary will be recited Thursday at 6:00 p.m. Denise was born on October 11, 1953, in Crowley, Louisiana, the daughter of Daniel Joseph Frugé and Yvonne Marie Sigur Frugé. She was a 1971 graduate of Notre Dame High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1975 from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. After graduation, Denise devoted herself to a 20-year career with the Louisiana Department of Corrections, acting as a Parole and Probation Officer. Upon her retirement from the Department of Corrections, she subsequently had a nearly 30-year career as a well-respected real estate abstractor assisting in the closing of real estate transactions throughout Acadiana, working until the time of her diagnosis. Denise found fulfillment in her dedication to helping others through volunteer work at local social services. She also enjoyed spending time with her husband in the French Quarter during Mardi Gras, attending local festivals, watching classic movies, and dining at all her favorite restaurants (with a cold beer in a cold glass). Her grandchildren, to whom she was known as Neesey, were her true joy, and she never missed an opportunity to support them in their many hobbies and endeavors. Denise is survived by her husband of 14 years Michael Martin Mire, her son Matthew Alexander Hébert (Katie), two grandchildren Daniel and Olivia Hebert and bonus grandchild Maggie Conner. She is also survived by two brothers Richard D. Frugé (Christine) and Philip A. Frugé (Kay), nieces Angela K. Frugé, Ellen F. Campbell (Nick), Laura Frugé (Chris), Jeanne Frugé-Rodriguez (Joel), Leah Lowry (Robert), Charlotte Martin (Chris), nephew Stephen Frugé, and sisters-in-law Debbie K. Frugé and Donna R. Frugé. Denise was preceded in death by her parents Daniel & Yvonne Frugé, and by her brothers David Wayne Frugé and Michael Alexander Frugé, nephews Brian Frugé and Neil Frugé, her paternal grandparents Daniel Herman Frugé and Leah Lafosse Frugé, and maternal grandparents Alexander Octave Sigur, Sr. and Beulah O'Pry Sigur. The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to Hospice of Acadiana, Quality of Life Services, her neighborhood Rosary group and Pokeno friends, and to Therese Weiss, Donna Frugé, and Angela Frugé for their support during her time of need. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Faith House of Acadiana, PO Box 93135, Lafayette, LA 70509, in the name of Leah Denise Frugé Mire.
