Tracy Cortez

Tracy Trahan Cortez, age 79, passed away on August 25, 2018, at her home in Lafayette surrounded by her family after a brief battle with cancer. She was a loving and devoted wife to Marion J. Cortez for over 60 years. They were blessed to have six children: Scarlet Pettit (Mike) of Lafayette, Toby Cortez of Atlanta, Page Cortez (Angela) of Lafayette, Lane Cortez (Amy) of Lafayette, Marcy Griffin (Scott) of Atlanta, and Cort Cortez (Pam) of Susanville, CA; as well as nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. In addition to being a loving mother, Tracy was the secretary at Prairie Elementary School for many years, where she enjoyed the friendships of many coworkers, parents, and volunteers. She retired from the Lafayette Parish School System and spent her retirement years cooking for family gatherings, lunching with friends, playing cards and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also acquired many dear friendships while serving as PTA President and PTA District President for many years while her children were in school. A native and lifelong resident of Lafayette, Tracy was a graduate of Lafayette High School and attended SLI. She was preceded in death by her parents Dua "Toby" and Annabelle (Romero) Trahan of Lafayette. She is survived by her husband and children, as well as her grandchildren: Claire Pettit Arabie, Rev. Neil Pettit, Carl Pettit, Toby Cortez II, Matthew Cortez, Maria Cortez, Mary Margaret Griffin, Ashton Griffin, Alexis Cortez; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Terry Broussard (Tommy). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018, at 10:00AM at St. Edmonds Catholic Church in Lafayette. Her grandson, the Reverend Neil Pettit, Pastor of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morse, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Lyons Point, and St. Aloysius Chapel in Midland, will officiate at the services. The family requests that visiting hours be observed between 5:00PM and 8:00PM on Thursday, August 30, 2018, at Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive in Lafayette. A Rosary will be held during visitation hours at 6:30PM. Visitation will resume on Friday at 8:00AM until the time of the funeral. Interment will be at Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette. Pallbearers will be Matthew Cortez, Carl Pettit, Toby Cortez II, Ashton Griffin, Kale Veronie, and Alan Arabie. Honorary Pallbearers will be Toby Cortez, Page Cortez, Lane Cortez, Cort Cortez, Mike Pettit, Scott Griffin, Robert E. "Bobby" Romero, and Gabe Trahan. Readers will be Claire Arabie and Alexis Cortez. Gift bearers will be Maria Cortez and Mary Margaret Griffin.
