David Mealer Obituary
Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch
David Jackson Mealer, 78, of Southaven, MS, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025, at home with his family. Friends are invited to a visitation with the family on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. with the service to follow at 12:00 p.m., all at Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch. Pastor Greg Hurtt of Carriage Hills Baptist Church in Southaven, MS, will officiate.
David was born on September 4, 1946, in Elbridge, TN. He was a member of Carriage Hills Baptist Church in Southaven, MS. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Memphis Tigers, and the Grizzlies. David was always athletic and played basketball in high school, coached softball, and he was a bowler throughout his entire life. He enjoyed doing anything outdoors, such as maintaining his perfectly manicured lawn, fishing, cornhole, and shooting hoops with the grandkids. He was married to the love of his life, Brenda, for nearly 59 years and had such a deep love for her and their children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter. David was an incredible handyman and loved using that skillset to help anyone out in need, especially if it meant helping out the family with home improvement projects. He could build anything with the right tool and set of instructions. Anyone who knew him knew how kind and generous he was. He had a great sense of humor and everyone who met him loved him. He will be missed by so many.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Lorell Mealer and Claude Thomas Mealer.
David is survived by his wife, Brenda Caryol Mealer of Southaven, MS; daughters, Dava Gayle Dunaway (Robert) of Southaven, and Melissa Caryol James (Nathan) of Bartlett, TN; son, Wade Aaron Mealer (Terri) of Olive Branch, MS; granddaughters, Brennan Elizabeth Dunaway, Hallie Wade Mealer, Jessica Victoria James, Savannah Annabelle James, and Sasha Abigail James; grandsons, Jackson Robert Dunaway, Alexander Samuel James (Bethany), and Zachary Luke James (Aurora); great-granddaugher, Evelyn Mae James; sisters, Nancy Wheeler (Terry), Janice Callas, and Linda Welch; and brothers, Travis Mealer (Sharon), Randall Mealer, Larry Mealer (Carolyn), and Johnny Mealer.
