Dennis Sacks Obituary

Anchorage resident Dennis Sacks, 57, died March 23, 2011, at home with his wife and children by his side.

A celebration of life service will be held at ChangePoint church at 4 p.m. April 23.

Dennis was born in Allentown, Pa., to Jay and Joyce Sacks and was raised in New Tripoli, Pa.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1974, traveled around the world, and retired after serving 26 years, achieving the rank of senior master sergeant. He then enjoyed a career with FedEx Express as a courier, working primarily in East Anchorage.

Dennis was an active volunteer in church, working with children and adults. He graduated from Wayland Baptist University with a degree in business.

Dennis married Diana Bennett on May 12, 1984, in California. They have three children, Jonathan, Jeremy and Joscelyn Sacks of Anchorage. Dennis enjoyed life and loved people. He was a joyous person and radiated the love of God to all he met.

Dennis enjoyed sports, fishing, hunting, muscle and sports cars, cooking, visiting with friends and meeting new people. He was especially fond of spending time with family and supported and encouraged his wife, children and extended family in their many and varied activities.

"Dennis was a follower of Jesus Christ and enjoyed the journey of growing deeper in his relationship with the Lord," his family wrote. "It was always his intent to reflect the character of Jesus in his words and deeds as he lived and enjoyed life. He has passed from life to life, 'together again with Jesus in the blink of an eye.' "

Dennis is survived by his wife of 26 years, Diana; sons Jonathan and Jeremy; daughter, Joscelyn; daughter in spirit, Shoshanna Johnson; his parents, Jay and Joyce Sacks; siblings, Tom, Joan (Anderson), Michael, Donna (Braner) of Pennsylvania; his father and mother-in-law, Don and Joyce Bennett of California; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the education of his children through Alaska USA FCU in Anchorage. For more information, please contact ChangePoint church at 344-7780.

Glad to see the great impact you had on the lives of so many others, dad. You are united with Christ now, and He has blessed the work of your hands and your legacy richly. He is faithful even beyond the grave, and in your passing He has shown me how kind He is, even when He allows painful things that must occur before we are reunited in the newness of His life to come.

I think of you often. We'll catch up when the day comes.

I knew Dennis through his volunteer work out our church. He bonded with my kids, especially my youngest son Denali. He fully represented Jesus well all aspects of his life, and was a great example of how to truly live, even when you know you are dying. He chose to work, witness, and give of himself as long as his earthly body would allow him to do so....... all with an upbeat, positive, and humble attitude. I was greatly impacted by his testimony at Change Point, and I introduced my mother in law to him the week after. She was in stage 4 of terminal lung cancer at the time. He prayed for her and gave her a book about faith in such times. they have both journeyed on since then, but I cherish the memmories, and look forward to enjoying the Life they are experiencing with our Lord and Savior today. Thank you God for giving us this short, but impactful time with Dennis!

Uncle Dennis was one of the greatest men I know, always uplifting, always smiling, cracking jokes, loving life. When he asked how you were doing, you knew he listened and he really cared to know. He was always proud of your achievements, and encouraged you to keep striving on in this life we live.
Dennis was always ready to pray for you, and you knew when he said he would that he did.
He loved to cook, and loved to tell you all about it. I wish I could hear him tell me about smoking some salmon right now. Dennis used every moment of his life to share the Lord, and even in sickness, had victory over the devil.
I love you Uncle Dennis, and I look for the day when we will be caught up together to be with Him.

I knew Dennis only through his son Jeremy who is best friends with my son Gabriel. If Jeremy is a reflection of his father he must have been a wonderful person because he raised a very good god fearing, son. My heart goes out to the whole family and if there is ever anything my husband and I can do please dont hesitate to let us know. May God guide and direct you all and God rest Dennis's soul.

Uncle Dennis, a son, father, friend, brother, uncle, and more importantly a fighter. You have enriched every life you have encountered. Although your life was cut short, you made the most of the years you had. I am undoubtedly a better person to have known you. I will carry you with me everywhere I go to remind others of the wisdom, optimism, and hope you had. You led a beautiful life that I only hope to be able to obtain. Your faith and optimism are unlike any other. I know I will be seeing you again someday. But until then, know I love you and will forever miss you. Keep watching over all of us and know that you live on through each of us. Rest in peace Uncle Dennis.
