Ellet Seavey Obituary

Homer resident Ellet L. Seavey Jr., 66, died March 9, 2008, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer with his family by his side.
A celebration of his life will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at The Refuge Chapel in Homer, 397 E. Pioneer Ave. The Rev. Darren Williams will officiate. A gathering will be afterward at the chapel.
Mr. Seavey was born Sept. 20, 1941, to Ellet and Shirley Seavey in Portland, Maine. He moved to Candia, N.H., at a young age and attended and graduated from Manchester High School Central in 1959.
In 1968, Ellet moved to Alaska, where he lived in Eagle River and Chugiak until 1995. He moved to Homer in 1995 where he had lived ever since. Ellet was self-employed for more than 35 years as an auto mechanic. He also worked on the North Slope. He was a member of The Refuge Chapel in Homer. Ellet was an avid horseman. He ran a horse-drawn carriage service with his team of Percheron and another team of Belgian and Sherrod Cross.
The family wrote, "Ellet was a perfectionist in everything he did. His family was the love of his life, especially his grandchildren. He grew up with a love of horses. He enjoyed riding and showing them. He had two teams of draft horses and enjoyed driving them and giving rides to people as well as special occasion parties with the help of his children. He was self-employed and every customer became a friend. He touched the lives of those fortunate enough to have met him. He met the love of his life in high school and they started dating shortly after. We were married for 46 years and had four wonderful children. We moved to Homer 13 years ago and made a lot of new friends. We've enjoyed living in Homer by the Bay."
Mr. Seavey was preceded in death by his father, Ellet L. Seavey Sr.; sister, Carol Anna Wood; and son, Ellet "Allen" Seavey.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sandra Seavey of Homer; son and daughter in-law, Bryan and Patricia Seavey of Homer; daughter, Christine Lunsford of Deming, Wash., daughter and son in-law, Jennifer and David Reynolds of Anchorage; mother, Shirley Seavey of Candia; sister and her husband, Ellen and Bob Oman of Fort Lupton, Colo.; granddaughters, Brittany Seavey and Rose Steffens of Chugiak; grandsons, Caleb Lunsford of Deming, Jayden and Nathan Reynolds of Anchorage; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial donations may be made in memory of Ellet to The Refuge Chapel, 397 E. Pioneer Ave. Homer 99603, which will help in the building of the D-C Kitchen; or to Homer Animal Friends made payable to the Homer Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 2300, Homer 99603.
Arrangements are with Peninsula Memorial Chapel.

Sonny fought a hard battle and his positive spirit is an inspiration. He loved his family so much! He was a wonderul brother and I will always miss him. He had a great smile and "specialness" about him. We hope that he and Grandpa are driving horses in Heaven! Or maybe he's watching car races with Allan! He will always be with us.
With deep sadness.
Love, Ellen & Bob

Mrs. Seavey,

I was sorry to read of Ellet's passing. I really enjoyed being around him and I know he will be missed by all he touched. He loved his family and horses. I'll never forget the time he ran my sled dogs with me on the Beach Lake Trails. It seemed he had done it all his life. He was a true craftsman and one knew it was "right" when he finished it.
