Leta graduated from Denton High School at the age of 16 and entered Texas Woman's University where she graduated as a Phi Beta Kappa in three years. She later received a master of education from Texas Christian University and for a period thereafter, she was in charge of the TCU student-teacher training program. Leta married the love of her life, Carl G. Arthur, on Dec. 28, 1942. Leta was preceded in death by Carl, her beloved husband of 66 years. She was also preceded in death by both her brother, Sam Underwood, and her sister, Mary Underwood Boswell. I grew up 2 homes away from Carl and Leta. They were great friends and were a watchful eye for my mom after dad passed away. Leta was the angel of the neighborhood making sure everyone was okay and that even the newspapers were on the porches instead of in the yard. When I grew up, Leta always made sure that my son could come by and have a cookie and talk about what adventure a 2-3-4 year old had that day. We were excited to hear her stories about their golf outings and it was a privilege to give them a putter used by Ben Hogan as a family remembrance. Leta was a gift to us all from God and a Blessing every day my family knew her

My thoughts and prayers are with you. Leta was a "light". I always loved seeing her and Carl at our house when I was growing up and of course at UCC. They were both very special to my family.

Mary Ann, your mother is adorable--as always. I remember being in her and Carl's home with you and at Univ. Christian for your fairy tale wedding. Mrs. Arthur is surely loving others in heaven this moment. If you can reach me through this portal, my email is [email protected]. Love you, Karen A. Hodges
