Lillian Hanaka Obituary

Lillian Hanaka died at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska, on May 12, 2017. She was born in the village of Mary's Igloo, Alaska, on April 19, 1940, to Lucy and Joseph Hanaka. After the death of her father, her mother married Fred Mosquito and he brought the family to Anchorage.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017, at the First Covenant Church, 1145 C Street in Anchorage. Funeral service will begin with visitation at 11 a.m., and service at 12 p.m. The Potluck will begin after the service. Please bring a dish to share and fellowship with us as we reminisce about our Mom's life. Burial service will be at Fort Richardson, Alaska, on June 5, 2017. Information will be sent out regarding the time and directions on how to attend the burial.
Our mother taught her children about the Lord. She made sure they were in Sunday school and church on Sundays and Wednesday nights as they grew. It was instilled in her children how good the Lord was to her, the purpose of praising the lord and that we can call on the Lord at any time.
She is survived by her living children and their spouses, Rita (Aaron) Dotomain, Judith Hinkle, Leila (Dan) Smith, Eric Tetpon III and Jason Tetpon; grandchildren, Evangelyn Dotomain, Faye Kata, Melissa Langley-Jones (Scott), Lauren Smith, Stephen Dotomain, Danny Smith, Brett Smith and Joey Smith; and great-grandchildren, Isaac and Ivan Langley-Jones. She is survived also by her living sisters: Lucille Whisenant, Florence Pennington and Irene Mosquito. She is also survived by nieces and nephews from Alaska to Washington state.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lucy Mosquito (Hanaka); father, Joseph Hanaka; and stepfather, Fred Mosquito; son, Warren Tetpon; Eric Tetpon Jr.; Agnes McCurdy; Gretchen Flannigan; Rosemary Hunter; Anne Baldwin; Jacob Hanaka; and Howard Mosquito.
We thank our Mom for teaching us about Jesus! You taught us to trust in him, believe in him and have faith in him by example. Thank you Lord, for giving us, a Mom that was, more precious than rubies!

Lillian was a good friend and excellent doll maker that I did business with for many years and will miss her very much. She sold her dolls to Alaska Fur Exchange for over 30 years. What a treasure she was and will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Lillian's passing. I had the pleasure of serving as a SPC committee member for CIRI in the early 2000's with Lillian. I also have some of her beautiful dolls and have many memories of speaking with her at the native craft shows. Bless and prayers for all her family.
