Robert Jacobsen Obituary

Robert Andrew "Jake" Jacobsen, age 85, passed away on May 31, 2018, in Anchorage, Alaska. He was at Prestige Care and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by his loving family, when he went home to be with his Lord.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Church, 2111 Muldoon Road in Anchorage, on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at 11 a.m. Inurnment will follow at the Columbarium within the Cloister. Father Scott Medlock will be officiating. Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel, for those who would like to participate, and a reception will take place, after mass, in the Deacon's Hall.
Jake was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Jan. 21, 1933, to Amelia and Lief Jacobsen. He had two younger sisters: Anne and Jessie.
In 1952, he joined the U.S. Air Force, and in June 1955, he married the woman of his dreams, Jean. They moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., and then set off for Alaska in 1966. Here, they raised their three children, Sue, Mark and Paul, who still live there today.
After serving proudly in the Air Force for 20 years, Jake went to work for the U.S. Postal Service. He spent 33 years as a letter carrier, and was a member of the NALC for 45 years. He became well known to the residents and businesses of downtown Anchorage and someone they'll never forget!
Jake was a man of great faith. A founding member of Saint Patrick's Parish and a 4th degree knight in the Knights of Columbus, he helped with many fundraisers, shows and polka dances. He would give you the shirt off of his back if you needed it, and on holidays, would invite others to the house with no place else to go.
Not shy, a man with a large personality and a booming voice, there was no doubt that Jake made an indelible mark on this world. He was loved by many and left us all with some incredible memories.
He is survived by his sister, Jessie; and his three children and their spouses, Larry Raburn and Kathy Jacobsen.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Saint Patrick's Parish Deacon's Fund.

Jake was one of a kind. Generous , kind, no nonsense, larger than life, loveable, man's man. He will be missed. He now deserves to be re-united with his Jean in heaven. Rest in peace, my friend.

Rest in Peace my old friend! I fondly remember Jake, 1st as my Mailman for many years and as at brother Knight of Columbus. We shared many an enjoyable evening at parties and functions at St.Patricks and at KofC parties. Jake was a true gentleman and will be missed by the many that knew and loved him.
