Doris Lucas Obituary

Doris Jean Lucas passed away on Sept. 6, 2016, after a long illness at Sherwood Oaks Health Center. She was 91.
Doris was born on March 26, 1925, in Long Beach, California, to J.W. and Helen Griffin. She was welcomed into this world by her big brother, Robert Griffin (deceased).
Due to her father's passion for buying timber throughout Northern California and establishing sawmills, Doris attended a variety of elementary schools and lived in many small towns. The family finally settled in Lodi, California, when Doris was in the 8th grade. Doris graduated from Lodi Union High School, class of 1942. She attended two years at Bible Standard College in Eugene, Oregon.
In Nov. 1945, she married her high school sweetheart, Richard Stewart Lucas. They celebrated 65 years together before Richard's death in 2011.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Marcia Lucas Williams and her husband, Jared, of Fort Bragg; her son, David L. Lucas, of Fort Bragg; and her daughter, Sheryl Lucas, of Leesburg, Virginia. She is also survived by three grandchildren: David Richard Lucas and his wife, Dawnya, of Seaside California; Jennifer Lucas Schuyler and her husband, Troy, of Roseburg, Oregon; and Erica Williams Pyorre and her husband, Jacob, of Fort Bragg. Doris was the loving great-grandmother of nine: Daniel, Rebekka, Larkin, Trinity, Jordan, Mya, Caden, Mackenzie and Tessa. Her daughter-in-law, Jane Paoli, and her step-grandson, Adam Paoli, predeceased Doris. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Doris was a woman with a deep faith in God. She loved books, reading, genealogy, crossword puzzles and trying new recipes. Doris also had a lovely singing voice, played the piano and accordion, and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church where she was the secretary for many years. Doris was a serious game player and was always ready for a game of Farkle, cards or dominoes.
Before Richard died, they enjoyed many adventures together, traveling throughout the United States and Canada in their motor home.
A memorial service in celebration of Doris' life will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at the First Baptist Church in Fort Bragg at 2 p.m. The family suggests donations to Mendocino Coast District Hospital Hospice, 700 River Drive, Fort Bragg, CA 95437.
