Annie Lynch Obituary

Annie Lucille Murphy Lynch of Albany passed away August 17, surrounded by her loving family. She fought bravely and well throughout her recent illness.

Although a long-time Albany resident, Mrs. Lynch was born and raised in Bay Minette, AL. She attended Troy State College and Georgia Southwestern University where she received her bachelor's degree as well as a Masters of Education. She taught economics for 29 years: one year at Monroe High School and 28 years at Westover High School where she touched many lives and was beloved by both students and faculty. She won a prestigious Fulbright scholarship to study in Egypt. Even after retirement, Mrs. Lynch continued in education as a representative for the curriculum We the People and Project Citizen which gave her the opportunity to travel and work with educators from many other places. Mrs. Lynch was also a long-time member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Mrs. Lynch and husband Rex, loved traveling and seeing new places especially England. She appreciated funny and clever quotes and was always excited to add to her collection of college t-shirts and sweatshirts. She loved pedicures with her daughters and granddaughters and was known for her trademark suggestion of a "pick me up" during an afternoon of shopping-usually a pretzel and a Diet Coke. Most of all, she loved going to the beach, especially special trips with her family and friends.

Mrs. Lynch is survived by her husband Rex Lynch, daughters Laurie Meier (Mike), Ashley Cody (Chris), and Amy Chialastri (Tom), and beloved grandchildren Anna, Miranda, Kathryn, Mason, Marshall, Christopher and Jack, as well as 6 adored great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Annie and O.L. Murphy, her sister Caroline Cave and brother Larry Murphy.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 20 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. A celebration of Mrs. Lynch's life will immediately follow at 2 with burial to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Galen Mirate will officiate.

I just searched for Ann and Rex and sadly found this obituary. Rex may remember me as he coached at Kathleen with my husband Darrell. Ann and I were close friends and I vividly remember their 3 precious girls. One of the saddest times in my life was when they moved from Lakeland and Ann and I eventually lost touch. I regret I'm a month too late to contact my special friend. Darrell passed away 5 years ago. I would love to reconnect with Annie's family. My email is [email protected].

Thoughts and prayers for the family...I always enjoyed seeing and talking to Annie and Rex over the years...we first met at Tallulah Massey Pool and enjoyed many summers there.
