David Mullins Obituary

David G. Mullins, III, 18, of Albany, GA passed away Monday, May 20, 2024. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, May 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Porterfield Methodist Church. Rev. Dr. Josh Duckworth will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.

David was a loving son, brother, grandson, cousin, and friend to everyone who knew him. He was a 2024 honor graduate of Deerfield-Windsor school, where he played varsity football, wrestling, and track all four years of his high school career. He served as captain of the football and wrestling teams his senior year. David excelled not only on the field, but also in the classroom and in all that he did. He has received numerous scholarships and was planning to attend the University of Georgia in the fall and major in political science. In Athens, David had many friends as well and was a dear friend to the Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter at UGA.

Those who were lucky to know him have described David as a gentle giant, a goofball, the life of the party, the light in every room, the kindest spirit. The phrase "To know him was to love him," does not even begin to emulate the sheer volumes of his character and the impact he had on everyone who knew him and the community as a whole.

Survivors include his parents, David G. Mullins II and Leah Henderson Mullins both of Albany, GA, sisters and brother-in-law, Savannah DeLaine Mullins and Hayes Callaway Rowe, Leesburg, GA, Sarah Marie Mullins, Albany, GA, paternal grandparents, David G. Mullins and Nancy Marie Mullins, Columbia, SC and maternal grandparents, William Kermit Henderson and DeLaine Phillips Henderson, Albany, GA, aunt and uncle, Lydia and Daniel Reich, cousins, Drew and Ansley Reich, Albany, GA, aunts and uncle, Chris and Amy Mullins, Rincon, GA, and Elizabeth Mullins Bessels, Columbia, SC.

He is also survived by his three best friends and brothers for life, Jackson Deriso, John Allen Rigsby, and Lock Williams. David's love will also be carried on in his adopted stray cat, Reginald, and his special stray dog he nursed to health for the past month, Chumlee.

Pallbearers include Jackson Deriso, Lock Williams, John Allen Rigsby, Hayes Rowe, Drew Reich, Daniel Reich, Carter Deriso, and Holman Deriso. The Deerfield-Windsor 2023-24 football team will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at W. T. Henry Gymnasium at Deerfield-Windsor Middle-Upper School, 2500 Nottingham Way, Albany, Ga, 31707.
