Myrna W. Thomas

1939 - 2022

Myrna Walters Thomas, 82, of Albany, GA, passed away at her residence on Sunday, October 30, 2022. Graveside funeral services will be conducted Friday, November 4, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery.

Born in Parsons, KS, to the late Henry and Myrtle Walters on November 16, 1939, Myrna grew up surrounded by a loving family, participating in numerous church, civic, and musical activities. Myrna and her family relocated to Albany, GA, when she was 16. After graduating from Albany High School in 1957, she attended Valdosta State College with her sister and best friend, Marcia. They were members of the Polychromes, a singing ensemble that traveled the country. Myrna graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in music education and taught music in Jacksonville, FL, for a number of years.

On July 7, 1961, Myrna and Herbert Thomas were married and enjoyed 61 wonderful years together. In the early years of their marriage, they lived in Texas, Florida, and Alabama before settling back in Albany where they took over her parents Dairy Queen business upon their retirement.

Throughout her lifetime, Myrna's loving hands stayed busy nurturing her family and pets, creating almost anything with needle and thread, and producing beautiful music with piano and voice. She was an amazing and generous Christian woman who will be missed by many!

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry William Walters and Myrtle Mae Hamby Walters, and a sister, Marcia Walters Titorenko.

Survivors include her husband, Herbert W. Thomas, Albany, GA; a son, Monte Thomas, Lee Co., GA; a daughter, Melanie Thomas Woodruff (David), Longwood, FL; a brother, Nolan Walters (Brenda), Staunton, VA; four grandchildren; one great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, November 4, 2022, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
