June Clevenger Obituary

June N. Clevenger passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025. She was born in Proctor, MN on June 30, 1928. She is survived by her son, Edward Clevenger; grandson, Cayman Clevenger (Sarah); and great grandchildren, Evie Clevenger, Teddy Clevenger and Elodie Clevenger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Clevenger; her parents Mary Shunk and Frank Earl Shunk. This morning, at a little before 8am, my grandmother, June, passed away peacefully at the age of 97. She truly was my best friend, and we played countless games of tick-tack-toe, she taught me to tie my shoes, and more than that she taught me compassion, kindness, and the literal principle of being willing to give someone the shirt off your back. She was the matriarch of our family. She had a hard life as a minimum wage worker at Montgomery Wards who endured abuse in her life. As a child, I watched her care for my grandfather who suffered from Parkinson's, despite the abuse. She always treated him with kindness and love. That's how she treated everyone she ever met. After my grandfather passed, she traveled the world with us, visiting "Gay Paree" her dream, but also Asia, Africa, South America, the Middle East, Europe, Australia, and nearly every state. She got to meet all of her great-grandchildren, and they got to know her. She told me, and them, the story of Lolita and the chocolate covered cherries, a lesson from her own life on generosity, which is a nightly bedtime mainstay for my children too. The last two years she has struggled with dementia, but before that she had nearly perfect recall, and she told the best stories. She is no doubt where I get my love of storytelling. Few people who pass through this world are as decent as June Clevenger, I'm so thankful for the example she set in my life and to have shared my life with her for 35 years. I love you Gram. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Clevenger may be made to . All funeral services are private. E.J.
