Laurence Gillio Obituary

Laurence Frank Gillio Sr, age 78, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Carole Gordon Gillio; three sons, Larry Gillio Jr., Gerry Gillio (Rachel L), Doug Gillio (Rachel D); six grandchildren, Nick Gillio, Jessica Sandlin, Lauren Gillio, Blake Gillio, Alayna Gillio, and Carter Gillio; one great grandchild, Ronin Kelly; and his sister, Karen G. Villavaso. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Greg Gordon and sister-in-law Lynn Gordon, as well as his niece Melanie Dunn (Brian) and their daughters. Lastly, he is survived by his loyal companion Sadie the Red Doberman and many treasured friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank Xavier Gillio Jr. and Ruth Voight Weber. A native of New Orleans, resident of Slidell since 1991, and a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Larry was a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University. He was an accomplished musician as well as an entrepreneur having owned a successful seafood restaurant in Metairie. This was followed by a career with Hanes Knit Wear Corporation and retired as a National Accounts Manager. He returned to private business in embroidery and screen printing. Larry loved fishing with his family and telling stories to all who listened. He enjoyed attending Saints games with family and friends. He was an avid golfer. Larry's love of cooking continued to shine throughout his life with every meal he cooked. Larry reigned as King Neptune with the Krewe of Bilge in 2020. He was also a member of numerous organizations, religious and social including the Knights of Columbus #2732. Larry was considered the "Master Gardener" as evidenced by the lush gardens surrounding his home. His greatest passion was volunteering as a coach and attending sporting events of all types for his children and grandchildren over the course of many years. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 400 Westchester Pl. Slidell, LA on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 12:00 P.M. Visitation on Wednesday after 10:30 A.M. until funeral time. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Slidell. Arrangements by Honaker Funeral Home, Inc., Slidell, LA.
