ALEX OCKRYMIEK
AGE: 86 FORKED RIVER
Alex Ockrymiek, of Forked River, formerly of Irvington, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009, at home, at age 86. He was born in Newark and was the only child of the late Antoinette and Sam Ockrymiek. Alex graduated from Irvington High School and Upsala College. He owned his own business, Clinton Tire Company, Irvington. Alex was also a purchasing agent for the town of Irvington. After moving to Forked River in 1972, he was a school bus driver for Lacey Township, a job that he loved. Alex was the business manager for his son's, Dr. Douglas Ockrymiek, medical practice. Before retiring, Alex was the attendance officer for the new Lacey Township High School. Alex was a 33rd degree mason, receiving his 60 year pin. He volunteered at Southern Ocean County Hospital, Transport Department for over 15 years. He was an active member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Waretown, serving as an usher, counting and assisting with summer fairs.
Alex leaves behind his loving wife, Geraldine; two sons, Dr. Douglas Ockrymiek and Kathy Renner of Lititz, Pa., and Dr. Steven Ockrymiek and wife Mary of Cherry Hill; his stepchildren, Barbara Banta of Brick, John Banta and his wife Mimi of Alexandria Va., James Banta and wife Laurel of San Angelo, Texas, Russel Lines and his wife Renee of Maplewood, and Glen Lines and his wife Ginny of Brick; three granddaughters, Adrienne, Chelsea and LeeAnne Ockrymiek; his step grandchildren, Jake, Claire, and Sarah Banta, and Gregory, Douglas, Christopher, Rachel, and Matthew Lines. He was predeceased by his first wife, Lorraine; and his second wife, Ninita.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 367 Route 9, Waretown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Stephen's discretionary fund or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Ocean County Cremation Service, Forked River.

Gerri and Family,

We will miss Alex. He had lots of stories to tell us about the good old days. I know that Willie was at the gate waiting for him, as well as Timer and Hooper!!! Our prayers are with you and your family.

I am sorry I will not be able to attend Alex's funeral as I will be in Virginia. He was a great friend to the Forked River School. He always put the welfare of his students first.

Gerry I am sorry to hear of Alex's passing. I know this is a difficult time for you. My mom past away 3 weeks ago here in North Carolina. I am sure she was there to welcome Alex into heaven.
