Barry Burlaga Obituary
AGE: 76 • Beach Haven
Barry W. Burlaga of Beach Haven, New Jersey died Friday, February 3 at the age of 76. Born November 19, 1940 in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Anna Youngken and Walter Burlaga, he was raised in Upper Black Eddy and Riegelsville, PA and lived in Philadelphia until moving to Beach Haven in 1980.
Barry leaves his wife of 51 years, Christine (Hansen) Burlaga, whom he married on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1965; their daughters, Amy Vogler and Sally Cottone; sons-in-law Rocky Vogler and Richard Cottone; five grandchildren, Aurora Vogler and Ava, Rex, Lila and Cleo Cottone.
Barry graduated from Palisades High School in 1958 and Lafayette College in 1962 with an AB in American Civilization. He earned his JD at Temple University and was a CPA. Barry worked for First Pennsylvania Bank, where he met his wife, Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co., Latimer and Buck, and Lincoln Bank. From the mid-1970s to early 1980s he owned and operated Five Senses, a custom picture framing and gift store in Center City Philadelphia, which enabled him to balance work with raising his daughters. In 1981 he returned to banking in southern New Jersey at Guardian Savings Bank until retiring from its successor, Cape Savings Bank, in 1997. In his retirement he pursued his real estate license, working part-time for G. Anderson Agency until 1999.
Barry had a passion for photography, antiques and collectibles, gardening, woodworking, and following the stock market and financial news. Nothing made him happier than summertime with his grandchildren, relaxing on his front porch, working in his garden, and spending time in the company of his beloved family and friends.
A service to honor Barry's life will be held at Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church, on Atlantic and Marine Streets in Beach Haven, on Saturday, February 11 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you remember Barry by investing in your retirement, planting a garden, or giving to the Beach Haven First Aid Squad or Beach Haven Volunteer Fire Company.
