Harry Swartz Obituary
Rumson - Harry Mason Swartz, M.D. of Rumson, passed away on December 27, 2019 at the age of 88.
Dr. Harry was a supremely dedicated and skilled physician who took care of much of Monmouth County for 59 years, from delivering babies in the early years to caring for the health and well-being of as many as five generations of families in his office and at Riverview Medical Center. He was beloved by his patients and the medical community, always finding a way to bring his sparkle and humor to any situation. Harry's sincere and genuine caring for others always shined through.
Dr. Harry's second passion was his family. He was the devoted husband to Renee for 65 years, and a cherished role model of living a life with love and purpose to his three children and their families. Harry practiced medicine together with his son Dr. Steve from 1987 until his retirement at the age of 85. Dr. Harry and Dr. Steve are the only father and son to each have been awarded the prestigious Physician of the Year Award by Riverview Medical Center.
Harry was born in Atlantic Highlands, and graduated as valedictorian of his class at Middletown High School. He graduated at the top of his class from both Ursinus College and Thomas Jefferson Medical School and was inducted into the prestigious AOA medical honors society. He completed his residency at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. He later served as a Major in the New Jersey National Guard.
He is survived by his wife Renee Swartz; their children, Stephen Swartz, M.D. and his wife, Annie Swartz, Little Silver; Addie Swartz, and her husband Joel Rosen, Concord, MA; and Sidney Swartz, M.D. and his wife Gloria Garcia, M.D., Stuart, FL; and five grandchildren, Eliana, Jordan, Jacob, Aliza and Chloe.
Funeral services 1 pm Sunday December 29th at Congregation B'nai Israel, 171 Ridge Road, Rumson. Interment will follow at B'nai Israel Cemetery, Tinton Falls. To share a favorite memory or messages of condolence please visit his page of tributes at www.woolleyboglioli.com.

Our friend, neighbor and family doctor for many years. Dr Swartz was a compassionate person, physician and role model for all to look up to. A tremendous human bring. I have many wonderful memories of him throughout my childhood. He was an asset to the community he served and the many lives he touched. May he Rest In Peace. Fifty-eight years ago, when I was 5 years old, Dr. Swartz stiched my hand after I cut it on a broken milk bottle. He sang to me as he sewed. When I was 2 or 3, he pumped my stomach after I ate an entire bottle of orange flavored baby aspirin. He touched a lot of lives. Rest in peace.

Our most sincere sympathy to the entire Swartz family. Dr. Harry was our family physician for years. Our first appointment was before he was even unpacked in his new home on Cherry Tree Farm Road! Both my brother Rudy and I had worked for Dr. Harry as high schoolers. We learned life lessons, as well as how a sense of humor can make work seem less cumbersome.
The kindness and care he showed to both my parents and us will never be forgotten. May he Rest In Peace.

I just heard of the passing of dear Dr. Harry today. My deepest sympathy to Dr. Steve and the entire Swartz family. i had the pleasure of having Dr. Harry . Even after he asked Dr.Steve to take over my care he would always greet me with a smile and a joke when i stopped by the office or was in the hospital. Sadly there are very few men left such as him. He will be greatly missed.

I was privileged to work with Dr Harry in his later years! Amazing Dr. for sure!! I witnessed an elderly resident complain to him she couldn't hear him, after realizing it was her hearing aid battery, he reached right in his pocket and replaced it for her! Priceless Prayers to family

Dr. Swartz was one of a kind! He treated my great grandmother, grandmother, father, mother, sister and myself. Our hearts go out to his family and everyone who I know will feel this great loss. Fortunately, Steve is following closely in his father's footsteps and carries his wisdom and compassion forward. Our whole family loved Dr. Harry and feel fortunate to have known him.

Dr. Harry was my primary care physician for a few years. I remember his kindness & caring meticulous way of diagnosing my medical issues. He was also a great guy who will be sorely missed.

Dr. Harry was always able to put a smile on your face. He was always able to get my mom to smile and laugh, and I'm sure that would always speed up her recovery. Dr. Harry and his son Steve were not only my doctors but I also considered them my friends. Dr. Harry had a heart of gold as many of his patients would speak wonderful things about him in his office waiting room. To me, he was the doctor in a Norman Rockwell painting. He will be sorely missed. This world needs more doctors like him. Dr. Harry, Rest in Peace.

Dr. Harry was a wonderful physician - so caring, concerned, and knowledgeable. Even more so, he was a kind and compassionate human, which he demonstrated on many occasions for my family through the years. He leaves quite a legacy. I am so heartbroken to hear that Dr. Harry has passed away. I have always had so much love and respect for him ever since I was a little girl. My grandmother, Helen, worked for him for many years and, he was our family doctor. He was always very kind and good to my family. I will hold a special place in my heart for him. Doctor Harry was my family doctor since I was a little girl until his retirement. One of the best, kindest, funny and generous people I've ever known. He took care such good care of each of us. My mom, a young widow with 4 small kids and Dr. Harry always made time for us, often telling her to bring one or more of us to come in via the back door so as not to sit for hours in a waiting room full of sick people.
He was an old school doctor who took care of generations of people. He and his son Dr. Sydney Swartz were there when my critically ill brother was placed in the State Police helicopter that transported him to NYU Medical Center after Doc Harry tiredlessly researched and identified the obscure illness and found the doctor in NY that saved his life. He was truly a one of a kind man and doctor. He will be missed by many. God Speed Doc Harry and I know you're scurrying around heaven now in your running sneakers and tennis sweater.
