Joan Karwowski Obituary

Joan Karwowski, 76, of Bayville became an Angel Monday, Jan. 17, 2011. Born in Cliffside Park, she lived many years in Montvale before moving to Bayville 17 years ago. Joan had been employed as a telephone operator for Shell Oil Co. in New York City; also taught ballroom dancing at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Hackensack. She then later was a beautician for George Frederick Salon in Hillsdale. Mrs. Karwowski was an active member of her adult community. She was a member of Sharps and Flats Choir and Dancer and, was a champion 8-ball pool player.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Paul; two children, Kim Karwowski-Tursiella and Todd Karwowski and wife, Shirley; five grandchildren, Christopher, Danielle and Jessica Karwowski and, Kayla and Kyle Tursiella; her sister-in-laws, Constance O'Connor and Carol McMonegal and husband, Bob. Also loved dearly and survived by her Aunt Florence Dick and family, as well as her cousins the Olssen and SooHoo families and, many nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering for relatives and friends will be offered on Saturday, January 29, 2011 from 11am, with a celebration of life from 12noon to 1pm at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan's memory to: American Cancer Society; <www.cancer.org> would be appreciated.
